Damn!! Mason and Neuvirth may want to start looking over their shoulders!
- BiggE
to think we have at least 3 solid goaltenders in the system, including Mason and Neuvirth is.....weird. And that's not counting the other guy(s) we drafted recently. |

I'm disappointed in Hakstol for not starting him in a game this season. - SuperSchennBros
Season's not over yet. He may get a start or 2, especially if they are eliminated from contention. As long as they are in a playoff race, I can't fault Hak in the slightest for not starting him. You have 2 quality veteran NHL goaltenders ahead of him, the coach made the correct call.

After EDM the schedule looks very tough.
CBJ is never a gimme for the Flyers, then home and home vs Tampa, Florida, Detroit and Chicago on back to back nights on the road.
They could be way out of the wild card picture by the time the next game vs Pitt happens. - Marc D
No doubt. That's why tonight's game is a must game and they need to take at least 6 points in the 5 following to still be in the running.

Sure but Stolarz is having an outstanding season and I'm not a big believer in playing a goalie in back to back nights. This is just me though. - SuperSchennBros
Either way, I just hope we aren't in a position where they have to make a decision on whether or not he plays a game the rest of the way. Don't want to see Mason or Neuvirth get hurt down the stretch! |

At the time of the call up is when I was disappointed Stolarz didn't get a look at. We actually lost both the back to back games on the weekend that Stolarz was backing up Mason. - SuperSchennBros
And mason played very well both games. I get what you're saying and I was just being a bit of a richard. It is like people calling for Morin to play. Will it help or hurt his development? I really have no idea...most likely it wouldn't do anything and seeing him play a game in the NHL is only for personal reasons as a fan.
You were disappointed as a fan you didnt get to see him. If he gets scored on Cal Heeter style do we now assume he sucks regardless of whether he stops 51 shots or 20 in the AHL? If he gets a shutout we have half this board saying trade Mason or Neuvirth and roll with Stolarz as backup.
Basically what I am saying is that it doesnt matter if he gets a start. He has a good thing going right now, which is clearly working, and he will get his chance |

Bernie Parent, Ron Hextall, and Marty Brodeur would disagree with you.

Fair enough. Although I've seen the Flyers lose a lot of games against back ups and call ups because we didn't have the book on that particular goalie. |

I think you are right. Just after I say Mrazek is really good he is slumping pretty hard. They got taken to school against the Hawks last night. |

I still laugh when I remember Freddy Shero meeting with the media before a late season, nationally televised game in 73-74. After starting Parent for 20 something straight games, the media was dumbfounded that, in a nationally televised game, he was starting Bobby Taylor in goal. When asked why, Shero simply looked right at the reporters and said "it's his turn"
(frank)ing priceless!

I don't know if there is data to back this up, but anecdotally, when a team starts a rookie or backup goaltender, teams appear to play more conservatively and be a bit more conscientious, defensively. |

Yeah but Martin Brodeur and Bernie Parent are Hall of Fame Cup winning goalies. Mind you Parent didn't win a Cup yet at this time, I'm sure the Flyers had some idea they were on their way.

There is likely no data for this but as Flyers fans, I think we can all think of a time where a back up or a call up who has stole a game from us. I've saw the back up for Columbus do it us twice live. His name escapes me but two times in Columbus I've made the drive to be stoned by that guy.
