When you say "only about greed"....what exactly is wrong with people profiting from the tournament?
It's not like they're employing Malaysian pre-teens to work concessions and forcing the zamboni drivers to drive machines that have a random-explosion rate of 43%.
I don't know why making money has to be equated to greed. Not everyone who tries to institute something to generate revenue is some greedy, capitalist pig who wants to make money by trampling on the dreams of doe-eyed children. |

Well its like pro-line says "anything can happen, anyone can win."
The best team in the league is in 29th place after over 60 games,
If you dont care about patriotism why would you even criticise the fact that there is a young guns team and a best of the rest.
Is cheering fir your country stupid? or is creating a tournament that includes all the best players spread out through teams that will be competitive that you consider stupid? can it be both?
did you just say that no scouting or team building goes into this tournament? |

It's easy. I just pretend that I am cheering for something other than a convenient geological location and a uniform. Don't think about it too much and it's fine. - James_Tanner

It may be no fun to root for Canada. But it's a blast to root against them.....and Russia....you have to root against those gypsies. |

Everyone involved in this thing is already rich. So if it has to happen, because international competition is SOooooooooooooooooooo important, why not make it about charity? Doesn't mean I think everyone out to make a profit is a jerk, just that in this instance, I do. |

How much money is someone allowed to have before they aren't allowed to try and make more? |

Olympic hockey is the best hockey out there. I will remember that golden goal for the rest of my life. Best game I've ever seen. The passion was incredible. This article is ridiculous.
"It's about the money"... And you think the NHL isn't? Should we stop watching all hockey altogether? James Tanner isnt very bright. |

Life is a lot more enjoyable not whining about the things you don't like.
And of course it's about greed. Either put that aside and enjoy it or don't watch. |

Tanner you ethnocentric generalist we here in Alberta have as much in common with the people from Texas as you do. Otherwise though you're totally right. International competition is pointless and dated and the fact that everyone's just playing for #2 takes a lot out of whatever excitement that it might generate. Next lets scrap the Olympics - or at least get NHL players out of it. 8 games at 3 in the morning is not worth shutting down the league for 2 weeks for! |

What's the difference between international hockey and the nhl. Its the same sport with different teams. If international hockey is not important then why is the nhl? Its all about entertainment and both are entertaining in their own right. If you check the ratings for the Olympics and the world juniors I think you'll quickly realize that you are way off on the fact that you think most people your age share this opinion. |

The greed is just one of many problems I outlined. I don't think the hockey is great at all. I would rather watch the SCF than the Olympics every time. |

I agree, I hate the fact they shut down the league. And I'm only kidding about Alberta. I swear, some of my best friends are Albertan. |

I would actually rather they cut the regular season down by 20 games and add international breaks like soccer. The NHL regular season sucks, its 82 games of mostly average teams playing other mostly average teams. There is really no reason for a casual fan of hockey to tune into any game until the end of the regular season. |

A shortened season with international breaks would be great. Then you make 16 teams (however you have to do that) and have World Cup qualifying. 8 teams make the tournament. |

There should only be one international tournament and it should be the Olympics.
When it comes to this world cup, the NHL pretty much agrees with James that there is no country rivalries.
Why?
Cause they have a young stars team and a best-of-the-rest-of-the-world team.
This world cup has to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. An international tournament, where two teams don't have national anthems.
I will watch cause I'm a hockey junkie and I like watching the best players in the world. But to say I'm going to cheer for anyone in particular? Doubt it.
If anything, I'll probably cheer for all the misfits on the best-of-the-rest-team.
Plus, I think my head will explode if I have to cheer for Cindy more than once every four years. - Charliebox
We should submit ideas for what 'anthem' should get played when the under-23s or best-of-the-resters win. Suggesting "Forever Young" for the under-23s right off the bat! |
