Line shuffle alert: Wilson-Bonino-Rust. I've been wanting Wilson to get put with Rust for a while now. Lets see what happens... - Victoro311
I like the move because when Fehr comes back it'll leave Kuhnhackl -Cullen- Fehr as a possible shutdown line[/img] |

He has a stigma from a few playoff meltdowns (I know, the past two playoffs he's looked great) and also that World Juniors he pretty much cost Canada the gold. - MattStrat
I see that, I just don't understand how grown-ass men can't evaluate talent for a proper roster. A guy in a boot over a very good goalie and Abdelkader over Kessel? It's high school all over again! |

I'm not gonna lie.. I like that he's not throwing him into the lions den. |

So... just throwing this out there.
During this season... the only pick we've traded away, was a 3rd rounder, and no prospects (don't pretend Plot was).
New Pens record for the last decade? Have we traded away less before? |

I think Shero didn't make a trade a few years ago. I know it's hard to believe, but I'm pretty sure it's true. |

I find it kind of funny you all love rust but most hated tk when imo rust is a carbon copy who scores less goals. I loved tk and I like rust as well. I don't mind guys shooting a lot though - dbell646
Agreed that they are very similar players. I think most people liked TK when he first came up, what wasn't to like? He had speed and generated a lot of shots and scored a decent amount from the bottom 6, just like Rust (except the scoring yet), perfect 3rd liners. I think the issue becomes that there is an expectation that a young player will continue to grow and get a little bit better, maybe even a lot better if you are lucky. But when that player doesn't really get better or if they regress, fans get frustrated and lose patience. The other issue is when a player does get better, earns a bigger contract and then regresses. I don't remember too many complaints of TK until his last 2 years here when he regressed hard. TK wouldn't have gotten as much crap if he was still paid under $1 million, but he just got a decent raise to $2 million and then his scoring dropped off. If Rust has a similar trajectory and gets a raise and does the same thing, people will turn on him too. |

Yea that 2.2 he got the season after he scored 20 was way out of range. - dbell646
Classic not knowing when to walk away. After he potted 20, the FO prioritized signing him over Jagr and then Kennedy did jack all under his new contract. Do you now understand where I'm coming from in terms of my frustration towards him? It was a double whammy of giving a decent contract to a player that pooped out right after he signed at and losing Jagr to (frank)ing Philafelphia because of said contract |

Your have to go back at least a decade...maybe even to when Tarnstrom was "dominating" the blue line.

Got this little tidbit of info from DK's site. From the stat guy. Kind of surprised me however I know DP's minutes are sheltered.
• Where is Derrick Pouliot in all this? He hasn’t played anywhere near 600 minutes in the NHL this season, but in 16 games, he’s done quite well in keeping the opponent from generating offense.
It’s a small sample size, but the Penguins have allowed fewer shot attempts (43.8) and scoring chances (21.5) with Pouliot on the ice than any other defenseman on their current roster. When he’s been out there this year, the team plays relatively little in its own end.
As is the case with most of the Penguins’ adjustments this season, the call-up of Pouliot should help them tilt the ice toward the attack. - madmike71
Unfortunately those numbers don't really mean anything without supplying proper context, it one thing to say he gets sheltered minutes but until you actually use those numbers to see the whole picture, just posting the numbers that sound best is really nothing more than creating a false image you hope/want to be true. Unfortunately the only place I know to find player usage data is Hockey Abstract and for some reason they have data on ever player(including Warsofsky) but Pouliot.
Looking at some of the other numbers was interesting though, Daley is by far the most sheltered of Dmen listed with an Ozone start% of 64.2% and also facing the weakest competition at -.86, surprisingly Maata is right there with him getting a 60.2% Ozone start and -.49 QoC. This may surprise some but should show how well the player is actually playing but Lovejoy faces the toughest competition and start 62.1% of his shifts against that top competition the Dzone. Until I can find data on Pouliot unfortunately the numbers DK posted mean very little.

I know people like to use that TK contract as the excuse for why they didn't sign Jagr but honestly I don't think it had an impact at all, RS wasn't sold on Jagr and didn't want to sign him period, even if they did sign TK the terms to Jagr would not have changed.

I don't think you can throw out the Kessel trade where they moved Kapanen, Harrington and a 1st, even though it didn't happen "during" the season it had a great impact on what they did during the season because having those extra assets at the deadline would have given GMJR more flexibility top make a move. I'd be willing to bet good money if they still had the assets from that trade Ladd or Russell would have been a Penguin at the deadline.

I agree with this. I remember an interview with Ray and he was asked about Jagr. Ray sounded like he would rather have a colonoscopy than add Jagr to his team. He used TK's contract as an excuse for limiting his offer. No doubt in my mind.

Jagr wasn't signing here. And even if he wanted to, at the time he was the riskier signing. A 38 year old who was out of the NHL for 3 years. |
