My concern is also how it affects him winning draws...

If it's the top hand wrist that's a nightmare and will linger a long time as the top hand does control the stick movements. But if it's the bottom wrist that's bad he can stabilize it with supports, tape... and that's not as critical. Still no day at the beach, but I played 1/2 season with bottom wrist issues. Yet I was unable to hoist a beer with the top wrist when it was a problem, much less control a hockey stick.

They asked him in an interview why he chose 72 as his number for SKA and his answer was "I simply liked the way it looked"
- maria_wyeth

THX Maria...i wondered choosing it had any connection to the EPIC '72 Russia/Canada series, but seems it does not.

Guys....as a hawk fan who grew up with the heart-breaking Lemaire goal from just inside center.....to the "Glory days" of cheering Pit Martin, Chico Maki and Cliff Korrell....to the "Dynasty" we have been lucky enough to experience the last 7 years. Let's just see what we have done recently. It is truely ASTONISHING in this CAP era.

2009....lost in Final 4 to Detroit....solid run
2010.....CUP
2011....Down 0-3 to Nucks, force a Game 7 OT. Nucks lose in Cup Final. We were THAT close to perhaps doing it again!
2012...Only Bummer year....Mike Smith and RaT Raffi Torres oust us Round 1
2013....CUP
2014....Final 4, Game 7, OT.....THAT close to another
2015....CUP

Other that 2012 we have arguably been right in the hunt for 6 of the last 7 Cups....and this year it will be 7 of the last 8.

THAT folks, is incredible. Over the last 8 years. Tell me even ONE team that comes remotely close to this.

Go Hawks!!!!!!

- hawk35

Agreed....and we could have, probably should have 3 in a row already if the linesman would have called the obvious offsides on Jeff Carter in game 7 at UC when we were already up 2-0 in the first period ! That NO CALL would never happen today with replay. Who knows how that game would have changed at that point.

Man, that brings back memories, if you continue, it has Kanes tying goal.

Amazing how one play like Erats pass could change the entire fortune of a hockey dynasty.

Good thing they didn't trade him for Philip Forsberg before that game!

I was watching some game highlights of the 2013 playoffs on youtube the other night, and I know Bickell has been bashed relentlessly here, but man, that guy scored some gigantic playoff goals that year.

The top hand on a hockey stick provides all of the control and touch, so it should be your dominant hand.
If you hold the hockey stick with your right hand on top of the stick and your left hand down the stick, you are a left-handed shooter.
If you hold your hockey stick with your left hand on top of the stick and the right hand down the stick, you are a right-handed shooter.
If a skater is right handed, he would play with a left-handed stick and the same applies for a left handed player (he/she would be use a right handed stick). The hand at the top of the stick controls all stick handling movements and it is the hand that never leaves the stick.

Not talking about which hand he signs his name with. It's which way he shoots the puck. And I think he's a left handed shot.

He really emerged during that Detroit series once Q had the Bicks/Toews/Kane line.

For my money though I would say that Seabrook GWG in game 7 has to be up there with Hossa's from 2010. Especially considering Seabs was having a rough season/playoff. Those tears of joy after he scored still give me chills.

I super slo mo'd the Hossa goal (youtube has speed settings that are a cool bonus) and Sopel's point shot is touched by Joel Ward and the benign deflection landed right on the tape of Hoss who had a tap in.

Cool thing about watching it in slo mo was seeing the valiant desperation of Shea Weber and Rinne trying to react and defend that carom. WOW. That's some 'thrill of victory, agony of defeat' ABC Wide World of Sports stuff.

He sure did and arguably earned consideration for the Conn Smythe.
Too bad it was only a blip in an otherwise hella mediocre career.

I will reserve judgment until I see it over a longer period of time (like between now and mid-June). We have seen flashes in the past from him and others only to realize that some nights they bring it and some nights they mail it in.

update on Panarin's bonuses:

he has already reached his games played and Schedule A bonuses which will kick in $1,075M of extra cap.

as per GeneralFanager, the following are the Schedule B bonuses:
$1,725,000 for any of the following achievements - top 10 forward in the league in goals/assists/points/points per game (min 42GP), top 5 in league in Hart/Selke/Richard voting, NHL First or Second team all star, Conn Smythe.

of the schedule B he currently ranks, as of 3/3/2016:
Goals scored amongst forwards: tied for 14th with many players around him having games in hand
Assists scored amongst forwards: tied for 14th with many players around him having games in hand
Points scored amongst forwards: tied for 10th with Ovechkin who has games in hand on Panarin
Points/game scored amongst forwards: 12th but would fall to 13th when McDavid reaches 42 games played.

my guess is he is maybe 50/50 to hit the top 10 in any of these categories.

as for the trophies involved, requiring top 5 in voting:
Hart - league MVP - that will be Kane or Ovechkin it would seem but is top 5 possible?
Selke - too many top defensive forwards for him to get into the top 5
Richard - goes to the top goal scorer in the league. is he not in the top 10 from above, he couldn't be in the top 5 for this one either.

Could he be named as a 1st or 2nd team All-Star. again possible, but highly unlikely.

and last but not least the Conn Smythe. cannot possibly call that one at this time as we'll need to see the entire playoffs played out 1st.

so while a few weeks back it seemed certain he'd be hitting the schedule B's, now I am not so certain of it. while we'd all love to see him continue to put up pts with Kaner, the Hawks would be better served if the scoring were to now be spread out amongst all 4 lines which would then aide the Hawks in the cap overage on Panarin as well.

regardless, his season has been incredible to date, and I will just be happy to see him sign an extension in July.

You might want to check this if you do it again (make sure you are using per game rankings, not totals or maybe something else is going on). NHL's website shows him as 12th in Points per game as a forward for example. OV is 0.97 vs AP at 0.94 according NHl.com today.

Regardless you make good points and this is something they will have to be cognizant of.

not to argue but I did say he was 12th in ppg for qualified forwards and 13th once McDavid becomes qualified based on his contract using 42 games as the minimum qualifier.

Well played.

Panarin wore 72 with the teams he was with in the KHL. Beyond that, who knows why?

When I coached we gave kids straight blades. After a while they would gravitate towards one side, some kids would interchange, but the majority would "pick a side".

While the consensus is to have your dominant hand on top, i.e Right handers shoot lefty, that is not always the case. Same as in baseball, whether a kid bats left or right is not determined by his handedness. Most kids find what they are comfortable with and stay with it, thats what they remain for their hockey lives.
