Righty in most everything except hockey and putting (all other golf clubs I'm a righty, only putt lefty)

When I was a little kid my older brother wanted me to have an edge getting to first, so he taught me how to bat left handed. Write right-handed, throw right, bat left. Would have golfed left except as a kid there were no left-handed clubs to be had, so I learned to golf right-handed. Played hockey left-handed, guitar right-handed. What a mish-mash!

Darling had a rough game but hasn't consistently played all year. Going to happen. You'd like to see him get a few more but keeping Crow sharp and getting points for home ice are probably more important.

The Hawks had their chances and missed some open cages at the other end. Boston needs points desperately while Chicago is sitting a little more comfortably.

Panaren got a nice look at what an excellent defensive forward will do when they don't bite on his shake and bake so hopefully it will be a good teachable experience for him.

That third line is looking dangerous.

Rounding things out with a healthy Hossa is going to ratchet things up another level and getting Kooga back will be icing on the cake. Good things are coming.

Not the first time he's coughed it up when he should have gotten it in deep.

Terrific rookie season - but he still has a lot to learn about the speed and quickness of NHL defenders.

I'm guessing I gravitated to lefty putting due to those mini golf putters that are flat on both sides. I played baseball as a kid too and always hit right, so I assume it's why I hit the "real" clubs righty.

Meanwhile, my oldest kid is pure lefty (wife is pure righty) and my youngest seems to switch hands a lot when coloring (not so much when writing though).

This probably has already been talked about, but I haven't got time to read thru all these pages (credit to JJ).
This Ehrhoff guy has really impressed me:
-nice shot from the point on the power play (something this team has lacked)
-eating up minutes (almost the same as Keith last nite)
-aggressive in the offensive zone esp. considering that he is a new player on the team
To me he has had more impact than any of our other additions so far.

- 67hawks

I like him too. Good payoff form a trade everyone thought was nothing of importance. It is only 2 games in though, and I think Flash has had as much of an impact as Ehrhoff.

Darling's a good goalie and has shown it time and again, especially in the playoffs last year. The problem is his SLOW STARTS.
- philco28

I'm concerned that we've given up 3 or 4 goals this year when an opposing player circles the net and comes out and fires shortside high on our goaltenders. CC and now Darling were both on their knees on these goals and I'm wondering if that's how they're being coached nowadays ? The old goaltenders were always up on their feet and hugging that post to cover the short side. Any insight into today's goaltending teachings on this play ??

As much as Darling needs to get more game action, with the next 4 against the Wings, Blues, Stars and Kings I dont see him playing again til the 16th against the Flyers..

So 3 more victories by Anaheim and Tampa give them as many consecutive victories as Toronto has wins all season.

Does anyone know, with Darling's consent, if he can be sent down to go play some games with the Hogs for conditioning purposes without passing through waivers?

He would have to suffer an injury to be able to avoid waivers, but it doesn't look like he has any sort of NMC that would give him any right to refuse the reassignment.

Anyone else already tired of the new playoff system? Just rank each team by points regardless of which division they're in and seeding teams according to the conference point standings makes more sense to me. As is, Kings get Nashville and Blues play Dallas, if the season ended today. Blues and Stars are 2nd and 3rd in points yet play each other in the first round?

I agree with this. He needs work, and he gets better the more he plays. He can also get into a zone where he is outstanding, the more he plays. No Cup last year without his performance in Round 1. And that was legit. Because he ha splayed that way at other times as well, just not on that big a stage.

GREAT POST and your point about standing up and hugging the post is SPOT ON.

The Bruins intermission crew said as much. One guy said Darling should have been hugging his post but was instead hugging the ICE.

It's just STUPID goaltending.

The only insight may be that the Patrick Roy butterfly revolution is accepted as gospel.

Back in the day, there was an old goaler named Dan Bouchard, who carved out a decent 15 year NHL career. When he was in junior, he had a reputation as a flopper. During practices, one of his coach's would tie a metal chain with a noose to the cross bar and wrap the noose around Bouchard's neck. He got cured FAST.

I don't think this is true with Darlings consent I believe he can go on a conditioning stint to the AHL.Usually this move is used when a player is returning from injury to get them back up to speed, pretty sure that Rundblad was on a conditioning assignment when the Hawks acquired him and it was from lack of playing time and not injury.

Max looks like a chip off old block there. Good for him for sticking up for a team mate.

Not being down on the post actually creates a much bigger vulnerability to wrap around goals, which are much easier to both shoot and beat a standing goalie on than elevating a shot when close to the net. Kind of a tradeoff, but Im going to guess that unless you are a guy like Kane, the numbers support a goalie being low in lieu of hugging the post.

This vulnerability is even worse when you are in the giant category like Rinne, Bishop and Darling. At close range, it takes these guys longer to seal the bottom from low shots when starting from an upright position.

Hawks end up with 105 points and in the playoffs...similar to 2013, 2014 and 2015
After that the scramble is on.
Struggle to beat the Wild,Avs, Blues or Nashville continues ...tough run ...think Hawks make it to the WCFinal

I'd say him coming from behind and attacking Garbutt was worse than the hit was.

Hit looked fine to me. He was finishing his check and it wasn't like he blind-sided him.

Just homer announcing if you ask me. And they said it best "I would like to see Domi in an actual fight", and not one of those situations where he comes from behind and starts swinging. That is bull-crap.

I find it odd that Garbutt was given a minor penalty for interference when it was very apparent that it was a clean hit.The Yotes homer commentators seem to believe as many do that a clean check needs a fight Staged fights, retaliation for clean hits and injury based head shot penalties do nothing to promote hockey.
