Have this 'guru' and Hitch ever met ? - philco28
Funny nelson story -
Hodschayan: Having worked with the team as long as you have, I am sure that you have gotten to know the players fairly well. Do you have any good stories about any of them (past or present)?
Ayotte: You know during the off season I have 2 programs, first the resident athletes (players who stay all summer long in St-Louis) and second the non-resident (players who fly-in every month in order to get different phases of their personal program).
One morning I received a phone call from one of my non-resident player (we will keep is name anonymous but he still remembers…lol). “NELSON, WHAT THE ?!*&% WERE YOU THINKING? There is no way I can lift the amount of weight you put on my program.”
“Calm down what is the exercise”, I replied. He said screaming again “FRONT SQUATS”. I then said, “ I have your program right in front of me, last week while you were here you lifted 225lbs for 8 repetitions”. I calmly told him, “this is 2 big plates on each side”. He replied “this is what I have and I couldn’t do more than 5 repetitions”. I said, “this is impossible. You were doing it perfectly just last week, maybe you are tired?”. He said “I don’t know but it feels REALLY, REALLY heavy.” I then replied, “Just take a day off and we will be back at it tomorrow”. He said, “OK!”
I then asked him if he liked the new Olympic bumper plates set I just ordered for him. He said are you kidding “THEY ARE GREAT” this is what I’ve been using since Monday, then a light bulb went on… I said did you use this for your squats? He said “YES”, I started to laugh!!! He, wondering what was going on, asked me: “what’s funny?” I said, “You realize that these Olympic plates are in Kg not in pounds.” He then asks, “how much is 225kg?” “Well it is 495lbs dummy…and you did 6 reps?” He said with a little shame in his voice “yes”, I replied “next week use the right plates…BY THE WAY 225lbs FOR 8 REPS IS WAYYYY TOO LIGHT FOR YOU ESPECIALLY IF YOU CAN PERFORM 5 REPS WITH ALMOST 500lbs”…..

I hope Panarin wins it, but you never know how these things go. Panarin certainly deserves the Calder and the bonus that goes along with it. - DarthKane
It's shaping up to be a true debate.
Bread Man's been fantastic, embracing a new culture, thriving under nightly pressure on a championship team, while playing alongside the likely Hart Trophy winner.
McDavid was slowed early by injury, but has come on strong on a bottom feeder.

This is like Toews vs. Crosby...popularity contest vs. actual hockey results...
Breadman deserves it hands down...McDavid if it turns into a popularity contest... |

Vlasic as an early selection? Carter too?
Maybe I am missing something but there are others I would have taken over them. |

It goes to the player you contributes the most points and wins.
It doesn't take a genius to extrapolate that McDavid would have produced and had MUCH better stats than Panarin...
I do love the canada-biased that mcDavid's in oury should be a factor in the vote and also that the older experienced pro Panarin should get less consideration due to age.
That's all dumb, b/c the rule for what the cataegory is -is what it is, and
getting hurt is what it is...ouch,
There's no doubt that all of us know which is the better talent to build around, but that doesn't count in thos award..it's all about production in your rookie year.
and it is a terrific class all around.
and we all in our hearts know (via eyeball test) that McDavid is special. |

I am again in the minority.
I fear seeing the German defender along the wall in his end. |

I think you just have to look at individual performance and not the team the guy is on. Otherwise none of the Blackhawks would every win an individual award.
The injury on the other hand is something else, I'd hate to see a play lose out on an award just because of an injury. |

I hope he's doing this with all these players to make them seem weaker than they are to lull other teams into complacency and bad strategic planning vis-a-vis the Hawks. Then, presto-change-o, he'll switch them back to their strongest sides in the playoffs and blow everyone away.
Only rationale I can think of. . . |
