So are we to believe this gm is yzerman since that's the pic you put up.
Same guy leaking "Huge interest in Drouin" only to have nothing happen because guys are making "low ball" offers for a guy who hasn't played hockey in a month. Love how 10 to 12 teams were interested but no deal was done. Tells me everything I need to know without a press release. |

you want to make trade deadline day exciting? ban the NTC/NMC.
Done.
PA will never go for it, but there would be a lot more movement. - seedy
Love getting rid of the NTC/NMC. Trade deadline does not fixing. |

Simple idea maybe? All no trade clauses are VOID from Jan 1st on in your last contract year.
Eric Stall - would not get to submit a list of 1 team
Dan Hamuis - would not get to submit a list of 2 teams
Worst case scenario a player is traded away for 3-5 months depending on playoff success?
Just a thought, |

the problem with NTC's/NMC's is already being solved by GM's.
most gm's are baking in less restrictive trade clauses into later years of player contracts.
nothing really needs fixing. GM's are learning from the mistakes of the past.
let the GM's control their teams how they see fit. No need for more or new rules for trade clauses. |

Another told me:
'I do believe the NHL could head in this direction, because the trade deadline has lost a lot of its glamour and become incredibly predictable."
- Eklund
I highly doubt anyone affiliated with the NHL told you this, let alone a "high ranking team official". Do you really believe anyone at the NHL level really cares about the "glamour and predictability" of the trade deadline day? |

The nhl trade deadline isn't supposed to be some big event like the draft. Its just the day teams need to have their playoff rosters set. The only people who care about it are the media. Why would the nhl change anything to try and make it more interesting because the media makes a big spectacle. Its not like the nhl makes money off of it. This question is pointless. |

Bruins Press release "Not doing anything"
Source: Eklund - Tumbleweed
Funny, I didn't see any media outlets report on a Bruins "press release" that they weren't making any trades. |

the way the salary cap is structured, the rangers are already icing a roster that would not be cap compliant at the beginning o the year. GF:
$73,724,000
SNAPSHOT TOTAL CAP HIT
the league won't change the rules because teams can already do what you are effectively proposing. |

This. How about making the game a little more exciting first, then worry about giving rumor sites more hits. |

You cant just get rid of the salary cap.
You want to fix the trade deadline. Get rid of the NTC NMC clauses and make them earned by experience.
5 years - limited NTC - 10 teams
10 years - Full NTC - ImThatGuy
This would just force players into early retirement. |

This might sound a little ridiculous but what if the league put a hold on trades a day or two before the deadline, and on deadline day extend the time from 3pm to 9pm?
That way teams in selling more can start bidding wars early and gms can make calls workout a trade then announce it deadline day. That would guarantee to make deadline day a lot more exciting

Get rid of guaranteed contracts in the NHL, thereby allowing teams to jettison bad contracts, freeing up cap space, allowing more flexibility in making trades.
To make it super duper exciting you could have this window exist 48 hours to the trade deadline and prior to free agent day. Then there would be a whole mess of unsigned players who could be signed at an appropriate value, or teams can trade assets. Ultimately creating a lot of player and asset movement, but likely reducing the money moving between teams.
Ultimately, it would allow teams to spend closer to the cap and sign bigger contracts for players knowing they can get out of them if it doesn't work out. |

I don't mind this idea, except there would need to be some sort of stipulation about guys who get injured and never come back to form.
Imagine you sign a 4 year, 2M contract as a really solid 3rd liner, part way through your contract you break your leg badly enough that you've permanently lost a step. All of a sudden you're not a solid 3rd liner, your contract is terminated and you may never sign a new one. |

want to fix the deadline...
get rid of the draft lottery
middle of the pack teams are hedging their bets on winning the lottery... no movement of high picks. - BorjeFan4Ever
The NHLs thought on this new lottery system would discourage tanking. It has backfired completly, IMO |
