the only trade deadline move that needs to be made is to extend the deadline to 10pm EST so that everything comes down to primetime in the east and is discussed primetime in the west in the post deadline wrap up...

Snow botched his last offseason by sitting on his hands, but I'm glad he didn't overcompensate to try and make up for that at the deadline.

He has work to do in the offseason.

From the fan perspective nothing needs fixing. What we all witnessed was a market adjustment - some GM's came to their senses & concluded it doesn't make sense to mortgage the future for a rental player who more often than not would not work out.

The other thing I picked up on was there seemed to be more trades made prior to the deadline day.

i just counted +30 trades in the week leading up to and including trade deadline day.

was there really a lack of movement?

seems like buyers actually held prices down...very few 1st round picks moving.

why does it need to be fixed? This is what having a fixed salary cap is all about. Keeping everything equal. It also takes some strategy for GMs to be able to fit certain players under the cap. What about a trade that happens 3 months before the deadline? we would have 40 trades on deadline day. one team could decide to go ALL in and trade draft multiple draft picks from multiple years and have a ridiculous team. Imagine the Hawks being able to get Ladd, Staal, and Boedker. Plus with NTCs, many players could pull a Hamhuis and only want to play for 3 or so teams which wouldn't really drive up the price. Am I missing something or was EKs idea just stupid?

Yeap, pretty much this. You are not eligible to receive a NTC/NMC until your 5th year in the league.

Its gotten to the point where 99% of the UFA's gets a NTC anyways on july 1.
