seems this idea is dead in the water.
Maybe it would benefit certain sports TV shows and some websites.... |

We need to stop trying to 'fix' everything in sports, it's never going to be a jolt-per-second all the time. It's not reality tv. You need lame, boring periods, games, trade deadlines and even championship games in order for the electrifying ones to be any different. |

It wouldn't benefit anyone even a certain site who never get's anything right.... |

How do you still have a job? Was this an article? Nothing about this idea makes sense. Trade deadline was boring and predictable? Despite you not predicting one correct trade... |

The trade deadline allowed the Hawks to load up to the tits and it removed all competition for the cup this year..
TD day was dead this year because teams knew they had no fk'n shot at taking down the Hawks.. - Fruitcakenipple
How would any other instantiation of a trade deadline prohibit the 'Hawks from loading up?
And I think LAK, ANA, StL, Dal, NYR & Wsh would like to have a say.
'Hawks will be loaded (when Hoss and Kruger return) but it won't be any cake walk. |

Considering Rogers' $12Billion investment in the league, I expect next year three things to happen. Most Canadian provinces have the 3rd Monday (I think) of February as a holiday, so the deadline will be moved to that date, or the Friday prior to it to make an extra special long weekend! There will be a trade deadline deadline. Meaning there will be a trade freeze for the 7 days leading up to trade deadline day. The market will re-open at midnight on deadline day. Since Stamkos will have since resigned with TB, there will be a 4 hour discussion explaining why John Tavares will be a Leaf since he's heading into the last year of his contract. It will be super exciting. If it's on the Friday, I might just take that day off to watch the glorious frenzy. I best go book it off now before my coworkers... |

realistically, long-term ek's proposed change would unfairly favor the oilers.
they will have lots of good assets to sell-off at upcoming TDL's. |

I have a better idea.
How about we don't allow teams to with hold salaries in trades & circumvent the cap by having other teams eating part of a players salaries. This is just helping the have teams. Icing a roster over the 71.4 million cap at any time by having others eating salary so they can play for another team is a joke.
Here's another unique concept. Have players salary's count against the cap in the actual dollars being paid that season. Just another stupid way to circumvent the cap. This would force teams to truly be cap compliant & force far more trades as players come due for significant raises that can't be sloughed off 6 to 8 years into the future would require teams to move players more often to stay cap compliant & we wouldn't end up with so many over paid players years down the line.
This bull sh-- just wastes time. Only lawyers can think this crap up. |

Nah...they won't be trading for futures. Perhaps overdue, the time is now to transform the pile of assets into a team. Because that is the issue. Sum of the parts is less than the whole.
Wait a minute...I'm a Leafs fan |
