If we were to get Stamkos, we would have depth at centre and maybe turn that centre depth into a dman through a trade... beyond that, drafting seems like a more likely course to address our d needs, but will take some time and see some stop gaps until then.

I want Pedan in the lineup for his size and physical play, I understand he has a heavy shot so there might be some offense there, but don't think he would be in the lineup for his offense.

It is too bad we didn't sign Franson in the off season when his asking price dropped, but I don't think he's the answer to our woes either.

Hamonic would look great on our blue line... and I don't see that happening. How do we get one of those kids out of Anaheim?

Horvat. That is how we get a good young D...
Patience people, we need to address the D through the draft

IF only. Not that I think he can rebound anyway, but him being a league worst -32 for his contract year AND sitting out would be super ideal given the poopty attitude he has put on display.

I'm hoping to see Pedan, too.

belcher made a good point awhile back about him getting top minutes in Utica and playing in all situations- good for his development.

It is funny to see WD give Hutton top minutes in mean nothing games, I hope WD isn't afraid to play Pedan when he does get in.

Your focus, once again, is on the wrong people. Tanev and Edler aren't the Canucks problem, it's the players they DONT HAVE that's the problem. Tanev transitions the puck to the forwards better than any dman we have, it's well documented in the analytics community.

Edler plays way too many minutes because the team doesn't have a true #1/2 guy, that's not his fault. He provides offence in spurts, his current 20 points puts him top 50 in defensemen scoring with around ten less games played.

The real issue is managements inability to add to Tanev and Edler! Sbisa, Bartkowski, Hamhuis, Biega & Weber are the crap that's not gonna improve the defense.

Edler for Hamonic would be a good start to rebuilding the "D" but it's unlikely because of Edlers full NTC. Let Hamhuis walk, he was brutal in the first 30 games this year.

Damn patience, it takes too long.

It would be a shame to see Horvat moved, but for the right player and if we had the depth, you have to move forward.

Edmonton should have done something similar long ago.

I thought I did? I can elaborate on it though. Stamkos will not sign anywhere but TB. I think the whole twitter liking of the Leafs pursuing him was a total troll job and was well played. Even with Babcock and the helm, and Lou gaining draft picks, Stamkos probably does not want to wait 6 more years to reach the conference finals again. I think money is not as important to stamkos as people think. Yes he turned down 8.5 mill a season from Stevie but that to me is a low ball when you look at some of the other names out there with similar stats. I know Stamkos has not had a good year this year or has been as good as previous, but I personally think the whole thing has been a bit of a distraction to him. I think he signs in TB for 10 mill a season. IF he doesn't, than the off chance of him going to Tor would be my second guess as to where he signs. I think there was definite dialogue between Stamkos's agent and Stevie Y on contract talks and getting it done, or else he would have been moved. IF stamkos signs with the leafs in the summer, then I think Stevie Y gets fired for losing out on a tremendous return. My 2 cents on the subject.

We'll see when he gets here. A lot of games against big teams coming up. Look forward to seeing Gaunce tonight.

Not sure it was me referring to Pedan, I did point out that Gaunce was getting top minutes and playing all situations though.

I did say that the expectations for Pedan shouldn't be face punching, it's something he has done ( at the expense of multiple concussions) but that he has much more value as a puck mover with a great shot and big open ice hits.

double edged sword.

Do you want to let a sulking jerk playing, while probably letting his +/- get worse and worse but not allowing a kid to play.

OR

Bench him for his contract year while his stats are bad and let the kids show what they can do for the final 20 ish games?

Yup, I've been looking forward to him getting an opportunity for a while now, I really hope he is given enough rope to get comfortable a la Etem, Vey, Baertschi.

He's earned the bench n can pull splinters.
The Sedins earned his 5m last year. This year he showed no game.

Yep, we have trouble playing against big teams that play a heavy game with lots of forechecking, getting on our dmen in the corners. If Pedan can handle it, that should be a step in the right direction.

Gaunce back in, shouldn't have been sent down, WD said he looked like he was ready at camp to be a regular.

Vrbata and his poop attitude on the 4th line ensures a top 5 pick (hopefully) and terrible leverage in his next contract negotiation though.
