Been to both but im not talking the city life or scenery im talkin hockey.....Stamkos is going to want to play for a contender which none of us are...I asked you guys a few days ago about what direction your team wants to go in and no one answers....you really think Stamkos is gonna go to Vancouver? Really? nothing against the city this is a hockey discussion...if you are Benning how do you sell your team to Stamkos? and dont say money because lots of teams could line up with cash for him and ill also add USD > CAD

I wouldn't rule out Toronto, there's been too much Stamkos sightings and innuendos, and they've got a new $10mil coach, high profile wheeling and dealing GM,Shanaban, 1st OA coming up and certainly not a contending team.

Ok I agree and it seems obvious so would you not agree that Vancouver would not be a destination for him?

I think it all depends on what Stamkos thinks he is capable of. If he thinks that Vancouver only needs a second line and he can do it (either by pushing the Sedins down or playing second line) then I could see him playing here. Likewise if he thinks by going to Edmonton, that gives them the freedom to move a forward for a top D and that would make them competitive, then I think he considers it.

Im sure he also thinks/knows that him being on a roster makes free agents want to join his team, so thats more for him to consider. In the end I dont think Van/Edm get him, but I give both more credit since they could make intriguing offers

- WhiteLie

with the amount of centers JB hs been acquiring I doubt stamkos would be in the plans, otherwise he'd have left a hole at center

Ill have to disagree...no way he comes here and tbh we dont need a Stamkos we need top pairng RHD..hey if you guys manage to sign him then ill be the first one here saying what a great signing it is
- RatedR80

I am not saying its likely, all I was saying is that with Stamkos, all of a sudden you have some top forward talent that is expendable. A team with a need for scoring, like say Nashville, might be a good trading partner to change the outlook of the Oilers. All would be a big risk for Stamkos, but something I am sure he would consider. I have heard his agency is very thorough about all aspects of free agency that their clients know what to expect today and the future of their potential new homes

Stamkos and Tavares haven't earned a spot on this team in my opinion.
- Scooby_Doo

If you have a problem with those two, what about Seguin as well?

Tampa looks pretty good and the taxes there are non exisitant....many factors to think about when deciding on where you want to play...for him I think it will be about who gives him the best chance at the cup...can you honestly say Vancouver is that place? You dont have to reply with "Edmonton isnt" because Stevie Wonder can see that
- RatedR80

i didn't mean to imply it that way, just saying for the bottom dollar and marketability the Canadian market can be vastly superior, just look at the Lindens and Smyths of the league, both having had careers yet winning nothing

That's some interesting logic.
I think it would be pretty foolhardy to leave a spot for a UFA, unless its Hamhuis

the lasting value of being the next Canadian hero to lead a Canadian based franchise to the cup will be an inadvertent legend

I think if you sign Stamkos to play Center, no one would complain about McCann going to Utica (or trading him for a young D/winger), he just cant bet on him signing. You can act and adjust for best case later on

EDIT: though I imagine the Vancouver media would find a way to twist it into some awful asset management...

Great for you guys if you could get it done I just hope you have a back up off season plan...as far as my team goes we go in on Hamonic and possibly talk to the Blues about Shattenkirk....if you got Stamkos then who plays on his wings?

I don't think Vancouver will be his destination, unless of course JB promises an massive contract with NTC and his own private jet to fly back to his home town whenever he feels the urge.

So no he's not coming, just guys pipe dreaming, like west coast home grown full pipe dreaming

The currency is a reason for playing in Vancouver. Do realize he will get paid in USD and be purchasing goods and services in CAD? If it's about $ he will want to play in Canada. The Canucks aren't that far away from contending again so it's possible
- CanuckDon

Im not sure what your point is about purchasing in Cdn dollars....have you noticed the cost of everything these days??? Perhaps someone else does all the shopping in your house?
Whatever you gain by the 20 cents on the dollar exchage is MORE than negated by the cost of living here. Your argument has no merit.

If this was a consideration he'd be best off in Tampa. Add the tax difference and its a no brainer. If he comes anywhere in canada its TO I hate to say.

I would throw Nuge in the talks and if they want a D man instead I would put Nurse into the convo...whatever it takes to get it done we soooooo need top pairing RHD or we will continue to be the laughing stock for another decade....you dont want that and I dont either...let someone else get the lotto picks

i would be all in on the Nuge after Stamkos ...probably the next best option IMO

the point being RNH comes and its a ? between Hank and him as the #1, Stamkos comes and Hanks #2

I actually like rnh.
That's a good swap imo.
He's expendable now.

Would trade you Edler for him if the isles deal doesn't work out.

I didnt mean to bank on him signing here, yes thatd be stupid.

My point was if youre intent on going after him you arent then deliberately trading for several NHL centers creating a log jam at center JUST PRIOR to trying to sign him.

would be creating more problems to solve

We have nothing against Nuge at all...solid two way player who would help a bunch of teams out...just the way it is now we actually have depth at Center which means we can trade a guy like him for a top pairing RHD...if this "rebuild" is ever gonna get going in the right direction then its time we made moves.....our 1st rounder should be in play too....even if its the #1 pick

Mathews might have more value that Nuge actually.
