My first try, Canucks win, Leafs drop to 4th. That thing spits out some upsetting results. I really have to put myself in the mindset that picking 4th is good. Terrible, terrible things can happen in this draft lotto. A lot of poopbag teams with goof fanbases that don't deserve it are going to be in the mix.

80% of the league has goof fanbases.

As much as I want Matthews, couple of things not in his favour:

he's older than the rest of the draft and just missed being drafted last year by 5 days or something crazy.

He kind of disappeared during the WJC and the U18 Worlds when it mattered.

My gut tells me we're getting Laine, which I'm ok with. Physically, he's a man at 210/6'4" and while not dominating an equally-good men's league in Finland, he's putting up really good numbers.

I didn't know that about Matthews, that's interesting.

Like I've said before, I don't follow junior prospects at all, but the impression I get from those of you that do is that this draft is considered to have five very, very solid picks at the top. That's encouraging to hear given that of course this new draft system had to be instituted the year the Leafs finish last.

Think Danny heatly.

Bad attitude, bad work ethic m, bad conditioning. You get a star player dropping off at 30 instead of a regular player at 35.

Yeah I guess you really see the contrast with guys like St. Louis, who has legs like a mutant from working out, and he was winning the scoring title late in his career.

Work ethic goes a long way. Look at Jäger the guy is a beast. That guy works his ass off to be in shape.

I really think laine is better. Just Mathews is a center. I think laine is going to be a dominating player and a game changer while Mathews is going to be a 200 foot player.

Yeah, I don't see Matthews at McDavid's level. A lot of comparison to Toews though vs. a generational guy like Crosby. Not exactly a bad thing at all.

I have faith in Hunter though and think they'll get the best player available again and the top 4 all look great.

I'm wondering if they'll try to move some 2nds and PIT's 1st to get Alex Nylander; I'd be really ok with that, but who knows, probably have to throw in a prospect there to get a top 10 pick, maybe Andreas Johnson and PIT's 1st and WAS 2nd.

If not for our lucky run to the playoffs I'd suspect you were talking about the Oilers.

I thought Matthews was pretty damn good at the WJC...obviously most of the americans disappeared when it counted, but a 7g/11pt tourney is pretty good for an 18 year old.

I'd be pretty happy with any of the first 6 or 7 guys. Puljujarvi with 17pts in 7 games looks like a decent consolation if we drop to 3rd, and a Tkachuk/chychrun choice at #4 is not exactly a bad spot to be in

If the leafs were tanking they'd be dressing Horton and robidas every game.

At least the boys were competitive last night. Gave the Caps all they could handle.
Glad we lost.
