do you mean Maple Leafs Hotstove?

Quite possibly the largest group of idiots to ever congregate on the interwebs.

- Aetherial

Admittedly I've not read their stuff but in assessing who may be the largest group of idiots on the interwebs one must never forget the incumbents, Nucks fans

Thanks. If you sort loss by 1 goal game, they are actually 4th. Not surprised to see Buffalo and Edmonton there, but Minnesota was a shocker
- WingmanWillie

Minnesota are always like that. Can't really score but play solid hockey. Nightmare to own Wild players in fantasy except Parise.

That's quite impressive for the Leafs considering they've ices an AHL lineup this year

My results tend to show around 80% chance of them not getting any top 3. They get in the top 3 about 20% of the time.

That is about 50 or 60 simulations; not sure if that is statistically significant?

If you sort by loss, yes.

But if you count the number of 1 goal games they've been involved in (30), they're just about like the rest of the league.

Canucks have 35, Oilers 32, Wild 35, Sabre 30, Caps 32, Kings 32, Blues 33, Bolts 32

I fail to see what is impressive... or I don't understand your reasoning.

LOL I have already decided I must not have access to any electronic media during lottery day.

When I really want a team to win, I never watch.

The HB Canucks Nation was considered. They did put in an incredibly strong and consistent effort. They just couldn't quite manage to overcome the otherworldly combination of stupidity and arrogance of the Hotstove.

This is similar to the Leafs, despite having the worst lineup in the NHL by a country mile, will not be able to out-tank the Oilers.

Some things in life make no sense. They just are.

To help explain the lottery probabilities.

If the leafs finish last they have a 20% of getting first. If they don't get 1st then the probability of getting the 2nd will ended on who actually got the first pick. For example of if the 2nd last person happens to get the first(the best scenario) then the leafs would then have a 23% chance of getting the 2nd pick. If the don't get the second pick and let's say the 3rd last team gets it(best case scenario) then the leafs would have around a 27% of getting the 3rd pick.

So the probability that the leafs finish last and not get 1st or 2nd or 3rd is 45%

So the leafs will have around 55% chance of picking top 3 if they finish last (slight variation depends on who wins each pick)

I am a mathematician, so there is your math lesson for the day.

They aren't involved in more 1 goal games than the league average.

They just lose a poopload more.

The AHL line up keeping things close, he is saying he finds impressive.. As do most Leafs fans.

Really not that hard to figure out.

The original point was that the Leafs were competitive because they were losing a lot of 1 goal games.

But the fact is, they play just the same amount of 1 goal games as most teams...

So please tell me how losing most of those games is a sign of the leafs being competitive?
