The way things are trending, I think we're going to hear more and more about the potential of trading Anders Lee at some point before his deal is up. They're not going to be able to afford to sign him thanks to the contracts Snow has handed out to dildos like Ladd and Clutterbuck.
I know the Schweiner and most of the rest of you hate the idea, but I'm into it for the right defenseman. He'll be 29 when his next contract starts and that's a dicey call to give him major money/term at that age. Frankly, and I love the guy and what he brings, I'd look to move him this offseason while his value is at his highest. Obviously only in the right deal, not looking to flip him for any old dingus that plays defense. - eichiefs9
I'm not crazy about trading Lee, but it may be the best thing to do. It would suck losing the only player they've had in years that goes to the net.
I think everything is on hold until JT makes his decision. |

It's not that I want to trade him, but with all the awful contracts Snow has sandbagged us with, we're going to need every single one of the young, talented guys in the lineup while they're still cost-controlled.
I love what Lee brings and I'd hate to lose it, but we can't keep everyone forever and at 29 (how old he'll be when he needs a new contract) committing 7-8 years to him, at probably around ~$7M, could be a real risky move that could murder them on the back-end. |

I don't even know who the target would/could be or if there is even someone on the block out there that would make sense to trade for. But shitface fuckboy Snow put us in a position where we aren't going to be able to trade young, talented guys and likely can't afford to keep Lee after next year...so the time would be now to capitalize on his 40-goal season.
Instead, we'll just let him walk for free next season when we can't afford him. - eichiefs9
Dougie Hamilton out of CAL ???
would prefer a more dominant LHD but not sure who would be available & not interested in Brodie from CAL which 1 of them have to go .. |

Yeah, I pretty much agree. It's just that I really like Lee and what he brings. It's an emotional not logical reaction. As long as they get a good return I'll get over it.
If JT walks I can see them throwing money at Lee. |

They're not trading him. Maybe Brodie, if we're trading with Calgary. I would also imagine Treliving isn't dying to make trades with Snow any time soon. |

I'm kinda torn on Lee even if Tavares walks. I'm not saying I'm married to this idea, but I think I'd still strongly consider moving him for a defenseman. I'd really prefer they start allocating some of the Tavares money to the blueline, if he walks. |

I'm guessing Snow ( ) will wait until July 1, when he's able to negotiate with Lee. Lee will tell him that he doesn't want to be rushed into a decision. He will then string Snow along until it's too late to do anything with him. |

Yeah, I wouldn't love the idea of Lee-for-Brodie, unless maybe Calgary added something. Not to mention Brodie has an 8-team NTC and is only signed for two more years after this one. |

Trouba would be my target if I'm you guys. Granted I have no idea if he is now happy with the Jets, but that would be a solid pick up. - mdw7413
I use to really like the player but his agent is a douche like someone mentioned plus has trouble staying healthy... |

I dont know if trading a major piece from the isles "top" line is the right move. I'd rather see them get rid of whatever bad contracts they have first. The isles theoretically should be trading picks and prospects to address the defense. |

If Tavares walks, you trade Lee for a top d man and build around Barzal. |

They shoulda been on him two years ago when he was talked about being traded. This fascination with keeping all the picks and prospects is baffling. You have the abililty to trade for Trouba with that weak backend you make that happen. |

I think that would only be a possibility if Tavares walks, in which case Lee may then become affordable (but I'd still question the intelligence behind signing him to a full-term deal).
Overhardt (Trouba's agent) is notoriously awful to deal with in contract negotiations and it could end up being an expensive deal for the Isles. Also, Pulock seems to be emerging (not calling him a sure-thing yet) as a really good RH defenseman and having Pulock-Trouba-Boychuk down the right side would leave us with one hell of an expensive 3rd-pairing RHD. de Haan is likely to walk and I think the priority should be a LH guy to slot in behind Leddy.
Wouldn't be "ideal", but I wonder if the Isles/Jackets couldn't work a one-for-one swap of RFA's Brock Nelson and Ryan Murray. Murray is oft-injured, but a most decidedly better player than Nelson. Nelson gives them some middle-6 center depth.
I'd also like to see them take a stab at getting Brodin out of MIN. - eichiefs9
Brodin is def someone they should have been targeting. One would think after 12 years the picks and prospects could be expendable.

Well they're not ever getting rid of Ladd, he's gotta a full NMC. Clutterbuck is awful and I have no idea who would want him or what they'd have to give up in order to grease another team to take on that terrible deal.
If Tavares signs, they're probably not going to be able to keep Lee after next season. Snow really backed them into a corner, with regards to the cap, and they flat-out won't be able to afford him.
If Tavares walks, I'd still strongly consider moving him because we'd essentially be back to the rebuilding-drawing-board and there's no point in paying him $7M/year until he's 36. That would just be more poor cap management.
Lee would be about the only valuable trade chip we have and I think there would be a lot of interest in him. I'm not convinced that Lee is still going to be a 40g scorer in 5-6 years, so I'd prefer that they cash in on his monster season now...while they still can. |

Speaking of Lee, he's playing on the top line for the US at the World Championships with Larkin and Kane.
And outside of Larkin, the USA center-depth is....wooooooooooooooof

I agree that Ladd is a tough contract to move but things happen.......i just dont have any faith that SNow is the man to get that done. I think Clutterbuck has value, ESPECIALLY for a team at the trade deadline heading into the post season.
If Tavares does walk, I don't think they have a choice but to re build, and i just hope its under a new regime.
I agree with Lee being a great trade chip, but I also feel like Brock Nelson in a package deal could bring a very good return, and address a much needed weakness. Every team in the league is gonna have interest in a 20-25 goal scorer, and the isles could still keep that net presence on the PP with Lee. The Oil took Ryan Strome and his possible upside so i guess thats why I feel like Nelson could bring back a very nice return in a package deal. |

Thats a pretty nice spot for Lee over the names on that left side. I think the isles have a legit top line, and i'd love to see what a real GM could do building around them. |

I do think Nelson has some value, I just don't think there's that much. There were 118 players that scored 20 goals or more this season and, while 20g is certainly a nice number, I don't think it makes him super-valuable. I know you said part of a package, so obviously it would matter what else we would include...but I don't see Nelson being an especially-valuable piece.
I also probably wouldn't use Chiarelli's trades a benchmark for players' value...he's made some pretty god-awful deals.
And I'm not looking to go down this road, because it's a matte of opinion, but I don't think Clutterbuck has value to anybody with four more years on a deal that overpays him by a lot. |

Question, If JT leaves and most are sensing a rebuild around Barzal, well besides Lee as the best trade chip & others on current roster should go to, but should team consider trading Leddy also? Would get back a drastic haul for him .. |
