They're handing the reigns to Lou and I can't imagine he took the job here expecting to get jerked around. He's got full control over things. For the first time in god-knows-how-long I feel like the Islanders are going to finally start making some logical decisions and maintain some accountability in the organization. - eichiefs9
Agreed, and its about time. I dont even know how to feel right now......good things are about to happen here. Only took a few decades... |

Boychuk has his flaws, but I'm not so quick to dump one of the only mostly-competent defensemen we have. |

I'm excited but we have a long summer let's hope for jt and some moves at draft. Grubauer could be a target in net |

We'll see. I'm excited and optimistic for the first time all god damn year, but there's still work to be done. Hunter isn't a guarantee, Tavares isn't a guarantee, and if Snow stays as GM that's less than ideal...but things are finally looking up for the first time in forever. |

Boychuk has a lot of value. The problem with the isles under Snow, is MANYYYYYY players were expected to be something they're not. Boychuk is a GREAT second pair guy......on the isles he was like Denny Potvin. They relied WAY too much on him because he was far more serviceable than anyone else they had. That doesnt make him a top pair guy. Hopefully with help coming, we will see Boychuk play less minutes and be more effective. |

I think we are going to see major overahaul here. Not just with the roster, but with personnel as well. Im confident that whomever Lou brings in, be it scouts, coaches or players, they are going to be there to help this team win, and not because they are good dudes. |

They gotta find a way to dump Clutterbuck and they should unload Cizikas for whatever crappy low-round pick he's worth. That's almost $7M in cap space right there.
Nelson will be gone. Hopefully they find a way to keep de Haan in the fold, he's really too valuable to lose.
Boychuk built a house in Garden City, he's not waiving his NMC to leave his family for half the year for the next 4 years. |

I think you're gonna see a team offer DeHaan an Andrew McDonald type conny and he's gonna walk. He's going to get overpaid for sure... |

This accounts for that already. They currently have $28M+ in cap space but are 10 roster spots shy of the 23-man limit (13 contracts signed, 23 players on a roster).
They currently only have:
Eberle
Ladd
Bailey
Lee
Clutterbuck
Cizikas
Beau
Barzal
Boychuk
Leddy
Pelech
Mayfield
signed to deals at the moment.
Wagner, Kulemin, Tavares, de Haan, Hickey, Seidenberg, Halak are all UFA's
Johnston, Nelson, Quine, Prince, Pulock, Davidson are all RFA's |

It's entirely possible and the Islanders cannot afford to overpay him just to keep him in the fold. But I got the feeling from reports last offseason that de Haan and the front office had a bit of an icy relationship...that may change now that Lou is running the show. |

Hope de Haan is willing to take a one year deal. He cannot expect to cash in off this year? Hopefully Cal and Casey could be moved. Boychuk is staying I have to think along with Ladd. |

With the exception of Tavares (and Nelson IMO) in the free agent column.......look at all that dead weight. WAY too much filler on this team....for far too long.

There's going to be too much interest from other teams for him to sign a one year deal, even after being injured for half the season. He's going to get a long term deal no matter what. The only question is if it'll be from the Isles or someone else. |

Yea he just offered the best buyout I like Casey and cal but they are replaceable especially for what snow gave them. Have to think there are a couple of asterisks next to their names |

I like de haan but he has a bad injury history and I cannot see Lou wanting to overpay for him. de Haan brings very little offense as well to justify any sort of big deal. |

Insane that if you sign JT to a $12M per, you can basically resign one guy for $4 or 5 mill and then are filling out the roster with whatever bargain deals you can. |

Lou's gonna be a busy guy.
If I had my way, Wagner/Johnston/Quine/Prince/Hickey/Seidenberg/Davidson would all be let go/dumped for nothing.
I'd like to trade Nelson, I just don't see it with him. He's got some value, not a ton, but I'd rather see him get a fresh start elsewhere.
I'd do everything in my power to get rid of Cizikas and/or Clutterbuck. I love Casey, but he's grotesquely overpaid for what he provides and his body isn't going to hold up too much longer given the way he plays the game. I think Clutterbuck is probably untradeable but I'd be fine offering some mid-round picks to entice a team like ARI to take him and that contract.
I'd love to dump Mayfield too. I could live with Pelech getting #6 defenseman minutes, but Mayfield is entirely useless. |

I really want JT back but I hope he plays a little ball especially with Lou in charge so Lou can build a good enough team around JT. |
