Lou turned The Leafs into true contenders in a year. Snow did it in 12 oh wait the Islanders didn’t make the POs again I don’t know anyone who would say Lou’s Tenure in Toronto wasn’t a success.
Malkin gave Lou 100% control. He will fire whoever doesn’t fit. Contract or no contract.
Now it’s November. You crack me up - nyisles7
Show me how lou turned TO into true contender. I see him adding a touch of grit and 35+ year old vets... and got a goalie (prob his best move). The core of the team was there before his arrival: Nylander, Marner, Kadri, JVR, Bozak, Komarov, Hyman, Brown, Kapanen, Johnsson, Leivo, Gardiner, Rielly, Dermott
Austin Matthews was a consensus pick at #1.
So this “lou made TO a contender” is a statement that seems unsupportable.
I think you can say: “lou was there as TO became a contender”.
Also: this statement that Lou can fire anyone - ignoring penalties and payout is also erroneous. Lou doesn’t write the checks. Owners do. So if Garth... who has at least 5 to 6 yrs on his contract must be paid out... you can sure as hell be sure he must ask owners to do so. Some contracts carry penalties for buyouts too. So If Garth makes $3 mill a year.... that’s $15 + more that owners take in the wallet.
But as you said... he has special powers and made TO.
I don’t know. That seems to me a lot of hype and koolaid for a guy who has had many hits and misses since the lockout. There is not a doubt that adding Lou is a good thing and can shape up organization shortfalls. But the Lou hype machine and miracle worker motif wears a bit thin. He won 3 cups with NJ pre-Collective bargaining agreement.
So here is a question: when it comes November and Garth Snow is still GM of the Isles... what then? |

That's the thing, I don't think he'll be controlling Snow as much as we would like. Since they're not in the playoffs anymore, don't see why the Isles wouldn't interview Julien Brisebois.
I think Mark Hunter will be VP of this team down the road. - bgainesDM
Yea that's the feeling of some on here others think snwo will have no say. I think snow if retained will have to run trades ect through lou but who knows what he will approve or disapprove. I'm hoping snow is canned and hunter takes his spot |

Your delusional! Your talking about a hall of fame builder with more rings than you have IQ.
You wouldn’t know a hockey puck if it hit you in your fat bald dome.
Give me a (frank)ing break.
To answer your question, Snow is nutless he can stay forever he means nothing. Lou is making all decisions. What in the world don’t you understand about Lou L making all decisions? Holy Shat talk about thick headed. |

Then captain says I told you so 10x a day - Upstate_isles
Captain Morgan also probably would tell us the same thing.
It’s the most likely scenario.
If Garth was going to be canned... they would have done it on day one (unless you are on this Mark Hunter narrative injection).
We can even dial it back. Owners never canned Snow at end of season. Could have easily just done it then, and Lou would have come in as GM.
Here’s the bitter pill that I think is going on.... and very few fans can or will want to swallow it.
The owners like Garth but are now trying to slam a guarantee that now helps in key areas....assure that team is on upward trend as Belmont opens. So they are giving Garth help, a key mentor on top who will yay/nay Garth’s moves/plans/etc.
How do we know they like Garth? (Or like him enough not to swallow a buyout).
Wasn’t fired last season, when he was crystal clear that his firing of Cappy was 4 weeks too late, and had he done so, would have made the playoffs;
Then wasn’t again after a giant multi-level crapfest of issues that led to another missed playoffs as their franchise player is in his walk year.
Then you have a player in JT who loves Weight and has liked dealing with Garth. All key franchise players tend to run away when big moves made. But in here... they add the Lou layer. That’s a boon. That is assurance that if he signs long term Isles owners are serious while also placating a level of stability/status quo.
Sure... Lou can fire and do what he wants... but he also is putting forward Malkin’s vision. He has already told us he is evaluating and seeing in what needs to be done. Fans all assume that means get rid of Garth. But I think it is too simplified. I think there is more here that meets the eye.
Yes... we don’t know how a 76 year old Lou handles being Team President. Can he do what Shanahan or Burke does and delegate... and oversee. Remains to be seen.
But I’d stow assumptions and give some leeway on time and team play via summer moves and changes. Because I believe this will be far from fan expectation or wants/ this will be a group effort.
And I find it funny to just question assumption has some people who are severely invested in Lou freaking out and lashing out. A very very defensive bubble going on. |

I will let Lou’s past success speak for itself. He’s come into organizations before and turned them around. Have a little faith Cpt. Sit back relax and let him do what he’s good at. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Snows had 12 years let’s let Lou have a month or at least until after the draft before we start pointing at his failures.
A month ago no one thought any changes were coming and Lou L is POHO if the NY Islanders.
OMG let’s enjoy it. - nyisles7
I don't deny that I think you're missing the point. I'm in no way saying that having Lou Lameriello as president is a negative thing. I'm saying that if Snow and or Weight are still here come the fall I have a huge issue with it. Contrary to some belief in here they will have some input and I'm not willing to sacrifice another season "figuring it out". I am starting to believe that they very well may be shat canned before the season starts. Ifthats the case then we all win. |

Garth = not particularly. But I do like their analytics-first upper mgt philosophy. Their coaches seem reticent to employ it and trust youth. I’ve only met the man once. He’s way too conservative for my taste... especially in last 3 seasons where a conservative mindset with cap max ability and new ownership. However, I also think his presence and ongoing philosophy is important to retain JT. Adding assurances like Lou instead of upheaval (clearing out staff) will help meet that. After all, how many teams when top players as UFA resign with their team when staff fired?
If I had my druthers, I’d prefer different coach, Garth out, and their draft/analytics who comes from the 1994 NYR (he has been in org since Neil Smith was hired... aka he is the guy who drafted Okoposo, etc) as GM or assistant GM or someone else in NHL who has been around collecting analytical data for a long time up as GM or assistant GM.
I’m not enamored with Weight as coach either. But JT loves him. Other players like him a lot too. So he will get another shot. And have this year or at least to start off season to fix and make adjustments.

I think there is a fair amount of conjecture & hope here vs lou’s Statement about evaluation. TOR scouting staff are on contracts and lou’s Tenure at TOR was far from stellar. Some mixed items.
Btw... isles scout staff also on contracts. And IF Garth signed internal staff to contracts just this offseason... and approved by ownership... do you think there are clear plans to uproot?
I’m not saying that by next year, it can change. Just that I think that up to November or so... won’t see much changeover in those areas. In other areas like the substandard player development and fact org needs a lot of fleshing out, I expect to see additional and changes. - B.D. Gallof
So Malkin says to Lou, sure Lou you are running the show, but hey Garth just signed people so you can't touch them, Lou is a control freak, the conversation probably was: Mr . Malkin thanks for the offer, but I control all aspects of hockey operations from day 1 make the moves I feel are right to make your team a Stanley Cup contender or maybe I just wait for Seattle. Not ok well i'll work around the previous administraions moves and try not to upset things too much. |

One last thought, this ain't NHL 18 or any other sim, things take time, Lou coming in and doing evaluations is exactly what needs to be done, people will be let go, some quickly some over time. Not sure if I buy into the Hunter thing, ( I think he gets Seattle) but moves will happen, patience is what is needed now, something many on this board will have to get used to, cause Lou doesn't leak, tell, or for that matter hint at what he has planned, so anything on this or any other blog on what Lou is up to is pure conjecture and nothing else.
The first thing a new blogger needs to do is say, sorry but don't look to me for leaks or sources on moves, cause there are none (includes you Ek) and blog on play, on fans hopes and thoughts, on the new building once plans are out, on prospects play, on draft ideas and such. But NOBODY is leaking Lou's ideas here so don't try and sell that, cause I for one won't buy it. |

Well that stands to reason its day 6 they need someone there to ask questions ect, doesn't mean they are here to stay although they might be. My issue with weight is he didn't adjust or make changes until way to late in the season. He seemed to be in way over his head I mean he looked like he was going to choke shannon post game one night and then another was like we played great and deserved to win after allowing 50 plus shots again. He also said he looked at analytics but didn't rely on them much and went more on feel.... . The game is passing him by with statements like that, this is the new NHL not the one he played in. If Richardson can't get the d to play d then get Steven's in there I understand it's the head coaches vision but someone on that bench needed to say Doug this isnt working. One good thing about lou is that he wont sit idle and let the season fall apart like snow did, I think he would have made a move earlier in the year when dehaan got hurt and it was clear the d was to inexperienced to go out and compete on a nightly basis. |

Already heard that Lou already drilling staff on process and fact-finding. So Lou already being Lou. He wants to see everyone and everything in action. Plus do Press as guy in-charge. Very no-nonsense and poker faced on his interactions with Isles staff. |
