I find the whole Nylander situation in Toronto funny. When the Jets were having trouble signing Trouba, all I heard from leaf fans was..."no one wants to play in Winnipeg". Now that Nylander is not signing there..... - TheUltimateJet
Its true.

I just don’t understand RFA’s anymore. The whole point of being RFA is to not be able to command UFA money. You have zero bargaining power, its the team you were drafted by or sit out. You are supposed to be market value on your RFA deal. Nylander’s market value is a little less than Pastrnak. 6.5 million for 4 years is all he is worth right now. Potential is meaningless. Many players had tons of potential and fall off. Past results is the best indicator. He can pull really big numbers in his UFA deal. Thats the point. |

Yeah, but players are at their most productive before they hit UFA age, usually.
It's a thing used by owners to help keep their costs down. It should be obsolete, just like the draft. |

If he signs for 8 years he is giving up some of those RFA years. Also in 8 years who knows what the NHL CBA and pay structure is like. If Dubas is only offering a long term deal 7/8 years then Nylander should get 7, and try to squeeze out as much as he can.
Potential is not meaningless, its smart for Teams to project a players production so they can try (like Dubas) to get a player on a contract for less then his actual value production wise.
imo, I dont think players 29 and older are going to get those big UFA deals down the line. if you hit UFA status at 30, you are not getting a huge payday

I'm pretty sure Stockholm is 7 hours behind EST, so if I'm doing the math correctly, 5 pm on Dec 1 in New York would be midnight on the 30th in Sweden.
But keep in mind this is post-legalization math.
