Apparently the idiots who did that aren't taking it very well.

The great thing is, those kids will one day say my parents were so into this television show, they named their child after it. Then they'll watch it, and they'll have that moment where they realize their parents are dumb.

Alright Leaf GMs:

8.8M to sign Marner, Kap, Johnsson.

Also need 2-3 Fowards and 1-2 Defensemen.

Get to work!

The Leafs traded David Clarkson. And Phaneuf to Ottawa with nothing retained.

I think a better scenario is to look at the blatant miscalls and get to the bottom of what happened. When the Commissioner of the League has to call teams and apologize for poor officiating then that league is in crisis.
- TrashPanda

yes, agreed they should at least appear to be trying to get to the bottom of those situations.

but part of the problem is that Bettman will never actually admit that calls are made from the league office ... the only reason that we know this happen with Vegas was because the Vegas owner spilled the beans. (good on him btw).

we will NEVER get official confirmation that the league office called Shanahan or whoever after game 2 of the Leafs Bruins series.

I don't agree with it.. .but its simply because they (the league office) doesn't want to be seen publicly criticizing their own officials - this I simply cannot understand for a very simple reason.

If an on ice official makes a mistake, which is inevitable given the speed of the game and some of the douche bags who play... there's clearly accountability because crews are eliminated from further participation in the playoffs.

so why not simply clearly state that this is the case when it happens? If someone makes a mistake on an icing call - they move it to center for a face-off. If someone miscalls a delay-of-game - other officials will correct them.... this is how it should work. The on ice officials should welcome reasonable criticism when they miss calls - such as what happened in the Sharks - Blues game.

alternately... when they IGNORE calls - such as in the Bruins/Leafs series - they should be called out.

I cannot for the life of me understand why a well intended official wouldn't want this?

You almost get the impression the league is trying to cover over some stuff?

He called Toronto over Game 2 of that series as well.
- TrashPanda

Did he now?

I haven't seen an article about it.

Unlike the millions about the Vegas apology.

Link?

IIRC, they didn't apologize to the Leafs, I think they called both teams and talked about the officiating, then the 2 refs were banished from playoff hockey.

first things first....

unlike Arizona - the Leafs are not going to give anyone to the BlackHawks just because - so no Leaf GM or armchair GM is gifting Chicago anything.

what he's trying to explain to you is that IF the Leafs need to dump a player for CAP reasons. they will be able to do so fairly cheaply, as they did with Phaneuf's and Clarkson's contracts.

for example - if the Leafs decided they needed to move Nylander and his 6.9CAP hit... do you really think they would have difficulty doing so?

in other words Nylander's contract is not equivalent to Brandon Saad's

The Hawks don't need anything from the Leafs. The team is coming a long quite well. #3 pick this year. 3 top defensive prospects to come up within the next 2 years (1 this year 2 the following year). Lots of cap space!! Only a couple million above the cap floor.

They just need to stay healthy and sign a defensive veteran and they'll be fine this year.

Bruins will win the Cup in 6 games.. Sharks/Blues will be a 7 game series.
- PatC80

At this point I want to see St Louis win it. I would rather the Sharks win than the Bruins, but after 2 game 7s basically handed to them by the refs, I don't really think they deserve to be there.

I'm completely aware. I just wanted him to explain...

The thing is, the Leafs can't even sign Marner to his 10M contract. Nylander moving sounds the most logical because he's will give cap space + something small back (probably a low 1st round). If this were to happen then the Leafs would have 15.7M cap space. Enough to sign Marner + Kap? Unsure how much Kap will get. Team would still would need money to sign Jonsson and another defensemen.

If you try to dump a worst contract on a team, then you will need to give up assets. I don't know how much value Kadri has after his last series costing suspension.

I'm wishing the Leafs luck on this one because I know how the cap comes and rips apart teams.
