Guess which playoff team almost never wins the stanley cup? The president's trophy winner. Hopefully NYR can buck the trend. Only 4 times since 2000. The last time it happened was 2013 (Blackhawks). - parmen

Well the cup has only be awarded 22 times since then, so when you consider that there are 16 spots every year that means that the President's trophy winner is more likely to win the cup than any other seed. |

The whole series the Rangers couldn't score at home, four goals in four games
Game 1 - 2-1 win
Game 2 - 6-2 loss
Game 5 - 2-0 loss
Game 7 - 2-0 loss
In Tampa, scored five in a 6-5 Game 3 loss, scored five in a 5-1 win and scored seven in a 7-3 Game 6 win. |

I really dont know what that team had left in the tank to play Chicago in the finals anyway, I think brassard needed surgery too after series was over, McDonagh was in a cast until August
but, would have been fun to find out

https://www.nbcsports.com...yandle-all-played-injured
Marc Staal played in all 19 postseason games despite suffering a hairline fracture in his ankle near the end of the regular season. He logged 20:40 minutes per game in the playoffs, but finished with just one assist and a team-worst minus-eight rating.
Ryan McDonagh also played with a fractured bone as he injured his right foot during Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final. He logged 17:33 minutes in the final contest of that series.
Blueliners Dan Girardi and Keith Yandle suffered a grade 1 MCL and a shoulder sprain respectively. Girardi was injured in Game 4 versus the Lightning, but Yandle’s been hurt since Game 2 of the first round.
Brassard had wrist surgery |

I think we’re in good shape depth wise this year if anything, especially with Jones. He probably should be the 6th guy as it is. Ruhwedel is meh but he’s at least capable of playing if need be. Forwards we really have some pretty good depth with a few guys on hand.
Anyone following the Pack? Whats their situation and possible call ups like Edstrom or even Othmann just to be around the NHL team |

That’s fine. If they need guys we will have to steal them. Edstrom especially I feel like could get a call at some point |

This is what bothers me about that stat being thrown around. Like how often has the 2 seed won the cup? Or the 3 seed? It’s the NHL playoffs I think we can all appreciate that nothing is a gimme, so why not give yourself every advantage by having home ice through the playoffs.
With that being said hopefully your Canes are spooked by the “curse” and lose to Columbus |

Well, in the last 39 years, 8 teams have done it, which is 20% of the time. Which, actually isnt that bad. However, it just speaks to the insane competitive nature that is the hockey playoffs. Making it truly the hardest championship to win.
Here's a bit of optimism I have, the last 2 Stanley Cup champions may not have won the Presidents trophy, but they did finish 1st in their conference. |

Something that has occurred 20% of the time since inception of the President's trophy is hardly a curse. |

Did you even read my first paragraph or notice that curse was in quotes? I was clearly being sarcastic after just laying out how it is not a curse |
