I’m still on the draft Iginla team.
What makes you think Helenius would be a better fit? Just being a center doesn’t tip the scale enough.
Lots of other players that could also be a great fit. Flames need everything, their first 4 picks should be huge.

- K-man25

Helenius being a centre absolutely matters. If you look at the Flames prospects, they have nothing but wingers with top-six potential and offense-only defencemen who still have a ways to go if they ever want to be NHL players. Helenius might be the most complete player in the draft. He doesn't really have a weakness except he's slightly smaller than you'd want, but that's mattering less and less. He's extremely smart on the ice, is a hard worker, and has the upside of being a 70+ point two-way centre. That's much more valuable than a 30-goal winger.

He's also been playing pro hockey against men for two years and had one of the better seasons a U18 player has ever had in Liiga. He could potentially be a fit to play on the Backlund line as soon as next year.

He’s ranked lower than Iginla, never a bad thing having too many good players. Who knows what Conroy has planned as far as picks or even trades for a center. Besides Backlunds line already has Mangiapani, Pelletier, and Coronato playing on it, I don’t think there’s any room for him there.

He's not though. There's no consensus in the order between 6-15 so the rankings are meaningless anyway, but most experts have Helenius above Iginla.

I think that's the most recent from a site people have heard of before and they have Helenius a full tier above Iginla.

Tij 2 goals today, he’s going to be gone before the Flames pick. Both Montreal, and Ottawa have shown interest.
- K-man25

If Tij goes ealry someone will drop to us... gotta trust our scouts to get it right.
Were going to get a very good prospect when we pick!

Game 2 summary via Daily Faceoff:
#24 Tij Iginla, LW: He’s good, guys. Iginla scored two goals and played as hard as anyone around the net, using his brute physical frame to win battles and get control of the puck. This is a perfect tournament to cement himself as a top-10 prospect this year, and he’s already been one of Canada’s more effective players with the puck through two games.

#19 Konsta Helenius, C: Helenius was rock solid both offensively and defensively. Offensively, he notched two big assists and was a key factor in setting up goals for Hemming and Saarelainen. Helenius kept the offensive flare going and added his third assist of the game in the third period after stealing the puck and creating a rush. Helenius continued to be lethal in the faceoff circle going 13/19 yesterday and was 62% in the dot today. Helenius showcased his defensive presence and orchestrated a clean breakout on a few occasions for Finland.

They have Helenius at 10 in their fourth tier: top line players. They compare him to Robert Thomas.

R
Helenius has been very good at the Liiga level and was a top player for Finland's U20 team. He is an excellent playmaker who can make a lot of difficult passes consistently. He skates well and creates a lot of offense with pace for himself and others. Helenius isn't a big center, but he gives strong efforts off the puck, doesn't shy from going to the net and has an edge to his game. Is he the most dynamic 5-11 center I've ever seen? No, but there are a lot of positives in his game and he could be a strong top-two-line center in the NHL.

Iginla is 15th and in their 5th tier: bubble top and middle of the lineup player. I think being an Iginla does have value, but this is likely where most people would have him if he had a different last name. They compare him to JJ Peterka.

L
Iginla has been excellent this season in the WHL for Kelowna and has emerged as a top NHL prospect. The son of Jarome Iginla, Tij is a very talented offensive player. His stickhandling displays stand out constantly. He beats defenders one-on-one at a high rate, and improvises very well with the puck. He skates well and can make high-skill plays with his feet moving. Iginla had a strong shot, scoring a lot of goals this season, and projects to beat pro goalies from range. His pure sense and playmaking don't stand out like the rest of his game, and I wouldn't call him a high-compete type, but he works hard enough. He has the makings of a potential strong top-six wing.

This draft could go in so many directions after Celebrini and it realy sounds like 2-12ish are very close and subjective. Tij , Catton, Helenius, Lindstrom and a bunch of Dmen are all possibilties. Cant wait its gonna be fun.

It would be interesting to see how Conroy's first draft class is fairing. I know its early, but they went for size. Lets hope they did not pick the next Hunter Smith.

To Calgary Flames
C Josh Norris
D Jakob Chychrun (8 x 7M extension)
G Joonas Korpisalo
2024 1st round pick (around 25th-26th pick)

To Ottawa Senators
C Nazem Kadri
D Mackenzie Weegar
G Jacob Markstrom

My thoughts: Norris > Kadri primarily due to age factor, Kadri turns 34 with 5 years @7M

Weegar > Chychrun. Chychrun is younger and still hasn't found his fit with Sanderson and Chabot being on LD. Weegar is coming off his best year at 30 years old. Ottawa native

Markstrom > Korpisalo + 1st pick. Again age and hoping Korpisalo bounces back. 4M is still a low cap hit. I think this is what makes me think the Sens would have to add in something, perhaps a prospect, player or another pick.

Thoughts?

I’d do Markstrom for Korpisalo and Ottawas 1st
Andersson for Chychrun
No interest in Norris, he’s been injured for too long and the 30point to Kadri’s 70 is too big of drop off
Kadri for Ridley Greig

To Ottawa:
Rasmus Anderson and our 2nd round pick #41
To Calgary:
OTT 1st round pick #7.

My Thoughts:
Top 4 right shot D with club friendly contracts (2 x 4.55) dont come cheap.

Pass on Norris (shoulder) and the last thing we want is another pending UFA in Chychrun. Given his injury history signing him to an 8 year extension would be dumb. Chychrun's value is comparable to what we just got for 50% retained pending UFA Hanifin which is nowhere near a signed Weeger!

There’s zero chance that they’re trading the 7th pick for Andersson. They can get a defenceman with higher upside who’ll be cheaper for longer with the pick. Maybe they’d consider moving the Bruins pick, but why would they want Andersson anyway?

The only way they're getting the pick is if Ottawa is desperate to get rid of Korpisalo and Markstrom is willing to go there.

Maybe but there is ZERO chance Calgary is trading 2 years of 4.55 mil Ras straight up for a late round 1st as you suggest. You ask why would they want Anderson anyway.... its well documented they are looking for a top 4 right shot D with character and Ras is all of that! And yes they can get a D man with higher upside than Ras at #7, but that player doesnt make an impact for 2 or 3 years minimum and Ott needs to win now!

No kidding we got more than a late 1st for Hani and he was a UFA and not re signing here. Ras and pick # 41 for pick #7 is a fair offer IMO.

Chicago traded DeBrincat to Ottawa for pick Nos. 7 and 39 in the 2022 Draft and a third-round pick in 2024!!!!!!!

Use some common sense. Obviously it would take more than the Boston pick to get Andersson, but that's a pick they'd be willing to move in a deal.
