Friedman: "I don't think the Sabres really contacted anybody, or if they did it was very minimal, or it definitely didn't go down a process.

It was very clear that Kevyn Adams made the change, and the change was going to be Lindy Ruff right from the moment it happened."

Oh boy.

I trust Friedman.

Kevyn Adams had “a lot of conversations” though.

There was no search. It was Lindy and that’s it.

He had a lot of conversations with himself debating whether or not he should interview anyone else.

Who cares? I mean, unless anyone is unhappy with the hire, then I suppose they've got a b!tch.

He's more than qualified. He's a damn good coach. He embraces analytics. He holds the men accountable. You're going to play hard, and if you don't, as he said, "My biggest weapon is ice time" and I'm 100% confident that he's going to attract some quality assistants.

What's not to like? So, who cares if Adams turned over 1 stone or 14. He said he had a plan, and that plan had Lindy at the top.

I wanted Gallant. But I'm more than thrilled with having the 5th winningest coach behind that bench.

They should have more goals. Hope it doesn’t come back to bite them.

Think it's easy to forget how little goalies get paid in comparison to skaters. These are RFA signings over 2m.

https://www.capfriendly.c...s=caphit-2000000-20000000

Who is your comp right now? A little Gustavsson, a little Skinner. Georgiev is in the middle. That seems reasonable to me.

With another good year, I still wouldn't put him in the 4m group. Maybe some inflation pushes it there.

- Lunaion

Those comps are mostly for 3 year deals though.
I said originally 1 yr at $3m. I think in that range is reasonable.
Between Swayman and Kahkonen seems about right to me.
If they go longer term they need to pay more especially with UFA years included then ...hence why I said with another .911 season and with term gets him over $4m+ after next season...between Ottenger and Saros.

Which plan are you referring too?

Adams 5 year rebuild with Granato as his right hand man?

Or

Hiring Ruff to hold the roster accountable and salvage the core while retooling the the depth?

I'm rooting for Lindy because I've always liked him and I want him to break this godforesaken drought, but this has Terry's hands all over it. I can only hope that Lindy can right this ship and get this GM and these players moving in the right direction with his experience.

He's a respectable adult and the entire organization needed that. I guess what I'm saying is, in the words of Homie, "Save us, Obi Wan Kenobi. You're our only hope."

Yep, seen this movie before.

Bennett took a slapshot right off his hand, too. He’s gonna be out, he left quickly like something was really wrong

Hey, whatever works, moving forward. They finally lost me this year. But I'm good, and somewhat optimistic, with this hire.

They could've just promoted Appert, or gone the "hotshot" assistant, which imo would have been a disaster.

Gallant isn’t a good coach at developing young players / using young players

With the rangers, Laf, Kakko, and Chyril didn’t develop and 2-3 prospects requested trades away from the rangers

Maybe it's just copium, but the fact that Ruff has survived, and thrived, for so long, especially through a major generational change in how players expect to be treated by coaches bodes well for, at least short term, success here again.

I think last time it was just time, he had been here for 15 years, after all. I don't think he was a bad coach all of a sudden, and the fact he's still in the league 11 years later or whatever is testament to that.

- Wetbandit1

darcy was beyond bad in drafting at that point

next to nothing after the first round aside from miller and pommer and a lot of crap in the first round picks after vanek

Because he hasn't put together a complete season yet. He was slow out of the gate this season, then played well since January.
It's a show me deal, show me you can do it and actively contribute for the complete season.

the hip is finally healed
