His first contract as a UFA and you guys think giving him nothing more than a $594K raise will be enough?
No offence but you’re dreaming…. Big time. |

I call $5M for THREE goalies a disaster. You call it $5M for THREE goalies...$5M for THREE goalies.
6 of 1, half a dozen of the other. - underhill14
You can only spend what you have sadly. I agree it's not ideal at all but I assumed you were meaning the play of the goalies was a disaster.
I'm just saying for what they are paying for goaltending they are getting fairly appropriate value for money.
Could be worse, could be Edmonton in goal and be paying Soup 5M to play in the minors!

If marner wants to score huge points with the fan base.....he totally should.
But he wont - Fakepartofme
Yeah he will be after $12.5+ and essentially be halfway between Nylander and Matthews.
Time to let him go, unless they can magically move Nylander. |

Well, he was overpaid on his last contract while Willy was underpaid.
He's not going to look at it this way, but hopefully that's the way it shakes down.

There’s no way his agent will let his all star winger give a discount to a team that hasn’t given it to the rest of the core.
Either or… one winger and no more at that price anyways. If they want Marner they need to figure out how to get rid of Nylander. Also… I’m kind of guessing that’s why Nylander was signed at this amount… they already know what Marner will be expecting and have decided they won’t do it. |

Here's what I wonder . . .how much is Mitch Marner worth on the open market with no restrictions?
Like right now in terms of cap hit percentage Pastrnak makes 13.6%, Marner makes 13.4%, Nylander will be 13.1% and then it drops to Kucherov and Stone at 11.9%, Voracek at 11.6, Tkachuk 11.5, Rantanen 11.3 . . . and so on.
Do you pay Marner more than Pastrnak? For most teams in the league do you pay Marner more than anyone else on your team? Is he THE guy?
That's a tough call. I like Marner - he's insanely skilled - but I don't know if he's the leader who leads you @ $12.5m and provides that value.

I'm not the biggest fan of paying players that much money unless they are absolutely dominant.
This being said.
I think a team desperate for offensive talent would be open to give him that amount if he makes it to free agency.

Always liked DeBrusk. He's a good player. Does alot of good things on the ice and can obviously score.
Of course his pricetag needs to remain reasonable for me to still like him.

Poor (rich as a MF) Soupy.
I feel bad for him though, I think he would give up half his salary to be able to regain his form when he was on fire here. |

I agree with every single thing you’re saying here… but I always see an over paying team out there… Utah? San Jose? Chicago to give Bedard his setup guy?

Maybe the Leafs shouldn't pay Mitch that much. That sure is debatable.
But I'm also pretty convinced someone will.
