Stop It
Norris is damaged goods and no one is giving up much for him at this point.
Your garbage out for quality in proposals are really pathetic! - DEDDIE
Nazem Kadri - 34 years old in October. He then starts 5 years @7M, taking him until his 39th birthday. Last 3 seasons have been 3 of his best 4 career years.
2021-2022 - 32 goals, 100 points
2022-2023 - 24 goals, 56 points
2023-2024 - 29 goals, 75 points
Outstanding player. Had his second best point total last year and finished with his most goals since 2018 in Toronto. I see Kadri as a 25 goal, 55-60 point player if healthy in a FULL 82 game season the next couple of years. Then who knows, his play will likely drop off especially if unhealthy.
Josh Norris - Almost 10 years younger, as he turns 25 in a few days. He has 6 years @7.95M (yes it's about 1-1.25M high bc of his health) but his production isn't the problem but staying healthy. His past 3 seasons over 82 games:
2020-2021 - 25 goals, 51 points (rookie season)
2021-2022 - 43 goals, 68 points
2022-2023 - 26 goals, 50 points (not fully healed)
If I was Calgary, I would not do this trade, specifically because I believe I can find a better deal, but if Josh Norris is healthy, he is a solid center to take a bet on if Kadri's play drops off. Of course this won't happen, it's just not as far fetched as you made it seem, especially if a third team can come in to take some of the cap hit. I think if Kadri didn't have the year he had and Norris stayed healthy, we'd be having a different conversation but of course that can be said about a lot of things |

Question on Boston's first round pick. Is there any difference on where it winds up if they get knocked out in the first round or the second? - david22
The 4 teams in the conference final pick 29-32. As long as Boston lose in rounds 1 or 2, then the pick doesn't drop down further. |

You refer to Norris past 3 seasons over 82 games.... fact is he's never played 82 games in a season so extrapolating his numbers is pointless.
Damn shame but the guy has a chronic injury and his CAP hit is 7.95 per over the next 6 seasons. |

Agreed. Norris is unmovable until he puts in 82 like Chychrun did this year, and even then I still think buyers will beware. Contract is too high and too long to be bought out. Pencil him in at 2C next year, because 100% he's still a Sen in October. Korpi could be movable for a similar albatross goalie - Merzlikins or Campbell. Otherwise we are waiting 2 years to buy him out or flip him Cal Petersen style. |
|
|
|
He can't play center.
"pencil" him in at wing.
Fact of the matter is his shoulder injuries aren't coming from hits. They're coming from taking face off draws or......in classic Senators luck.....running into a net the wrong way.
I can see Calgary not wanting to roll the dice on him but that Kadri deal is equally bad. Don't come here and overvalue your people. You're just as guilty as us then. |

Not only would I agree that Norris is unmovable, I have to reiterate the importance of the team structurally moving Pinto into the #2C role, and planning out their forward lines accordingly. Quality centre depth is critical in the NHL, and the #2C role is just too important to have someone play just 35% of the past 2 seasons games, and remain a major ongoing injury risk. If they pencil in Norris on the wing, then when he's healthy they'd have a solid 30G forward in the lineup who can provide a bit of C depth if there are injuries. But if Norris is injured again long-term, they at least structurally have Stutzle/Pinto in place at #1/2C, and won't have anywhere near the same degree of roster disruption.
Plus, they can always bring in another scoring winger with the LTIR cap relief. In theory the same is true of a centre, but the difference between trying to add a 2C mid-season vs. a scoring winger is pretty dramatic. Consider the trade costs for players like Monahan (1st), Lindholm (1st/Kuzmenko), and Mittelstadt (Byram), compared with Toffoli (3rd), Duclair (3rd), or Tarasenko (4th). Not to mention that quality C are typically only available at the trade deadline, when teams know they aren't making the playoffs. That's not going to help if Norris gets hurt in the first half of the season and they're still trying to meet playoff expectations. But secondary wingers like Zucker (6th), Tatar (5th), or Beauvillier (5th) were generally available at any number of points throughout the season, and could at least round out the roster with players with NHL scoring line experience who can step in and contribute. |

I never mentioned Kadri once.
My proposal was Rasmus Anderson and our 2nd round pick #41 for pick #7.
Seems like a fair comp considering this:
Chicago traded DeBrincat to Ottawa for pick #7 and #39 in the 2022 Draft and a third-round pick in 2024. |

Gotta think Brind'Amour is coming to Ottawa? Option not being picked up, he's from Ottawa... That'd be a good reason Sens never hired a coach yet.
Cuz as of right now... Who else would they be waiting on? |

I was at a Tims a couple of years ago. A woman behind me was wearing a Carolina Hurricanes jacket. Turns out it was Rod's sister.
He's got good roots here, would be awesome to have him as coach! I don't see Carolina going out easily, they could win the cup too |

Fine fine.
And that deal isn't terrible.
I think Brindamour re-signs with Carolina. Its just too good there.

How about:
Korpisalo and the 7th over all pick.
For PL Dubois (nothing reatined) and Brand Clarke |

LA commentators are not all negative on Dubois. I heard one say that they traded for Dubois based on the long term horizon and the need to replace Kopitar.
Not many teams are in a position to deal for Dubois. LA might make the acquiring team a very good price.
Would you do either of Chabot or Chychrun straight up for PLD?
|
|
|

I can't see LA going for Chabbot and his injury history. Maybe I'd do the Chychrun trade if they kept some. I feel Jacob coming in about 6.5 on his next deal.
I'd be using PLD as either 2nd or 3d center. Norris is done at that position. Wether we keep him or not. He can't play center. So. You've got Stutzle Giroux Pinto and Kastelic who's face off % is very impressive for a 4th line guy. Now you're gonna add PLD. Heck you have Tkachuk too. That's a lot of people who can play center or wing. |

no one is taking that albatross of a PLD contract without significant assets going with him, for OTT to take PLD it would cost Clarke+

I was literally going to suggest:
Ottawa: Korpo, Norris, Chychrun (25% retained on JC)
Kings: PLD, Clarke, another player (T. Moore? Kayliyev?)

No. There is absolutely no way Ottawa should trade for PLD unless Norris is part of the deal or headed out somewhere. |

For 2 years of Chychrun at 4.6 million per, Ottawa traded Arizona pick #12 in 2023 plus two 2nds. Dont see how you can say 2 years of Rasmus at 4.55 million per plus Calgary's 2nd round pick #41 isnt worth anywhere close to a top 10 pick.
Makes no sense! |

Not worth a top 7 Closer you get to #1, the more value it has.
The top 4 picks have NEVER been traded. 6th hasn't either.
5th in 2008 (Luke Schenn) for a 7th pick (2 spots down) + 2nd + 3rd.
7th pick in only 1 time in 2017
10th pick has also never been traded. |

Yeah here's the only deal I'd make for PLD: Josh Norris, one for one. The end. And can we please stop flogging the dead horse trading real assets for him? Because there are multiple articles out there musing about how the PLD contract is already among the worst in the league. Google it. |

I don't understand why people here are trying to trade away our #7 pick. This team is still rebuilding and we need to replenish assets in the minor leagues. One trade with our top pick will not fix our woes. It is probably going to take another 2 seasons to just make the playoffs.
Back to my Kadri and Norris issues. Norris is not finished, he will be back and he is still a good player. It will take time.
To Calgary supporters .... Kadri will be 34 in October, with 5 years left on his contract. The style he plays .... he likely won't finish his contract. Your choice ... trade at maximum value, or wait for the decline of the player and get nothing. Hockey isn't about what will you give me now or last season (as a player). Its about what I am going to get from you in the next year or 2. Then maximizing the value of that asset. Norris is around 24 and has another 5-10 seasons left. What do you want? Every player is a risk .... they are one hit away. |

I get that
If we took a poll of all Sens fans (beyond even the ones here) I think 80-90% minimum would want to keep their pick. The only way you trade is for a HIGH talent player. IMO that kind of trade would be for Brandt Clarke 1 for 1
