And yet Malkin is an enigmatic Russian who's probably frustrated with playing second fiddle and now that he's not going to be given top 6 wingers upon his return he'll be even more displeased and willing to wave his NTC...
Please... Give me a (frank)ing break. We've been crying about depth for ages and now that we're in the position to field three lines with top 6 forwards, we should trade our all world center because we don't have enough room on our top 6 lines for all of our top 6 forwards? That's incredibly idiotic. I like the guy who suggested playing Sheary with Sid. Kid's been hot as balls lately and has been seeing shifts with Captain Cros lately. Plus the Kunitz-Crosby-Hornqvist combo is pretty stale and rarely dazzles at even strength anymore.
Sheary-Crosby-Hornqvist

Hagelin-Bonino-Kessel
Kuhnhackl-Cullen-Fehr
That fourth line has developed some impeccable chemistry. I know a lot of people want to see Kuhn-Cull-Rust back but I think the current bottom line has been playing better than that line has. Cullen and Fehr have had great chemistry all season. |

Kunitz looks like he needs a break. He's been looking rough the last few. |

Based on the 'ahead of schedule' report, Geno comes back too early & is hurt again???
I really hope that doesn't happen, but not a great deal of confidence due to past history with this organisation.
I agree Gunner, with Geno in this team it makes it a lot better.
Let's go Pennnnnnssssssssssssss! |

As far as I'm concerned they can call up the entire Wilkes Barre team. It would be fine with me. |

I would probably keep Rust and Malkin apart, Rust is most effective when he is using his speed and carrying the puck. on Malkin's line Malkins needs the puck.
Personally I would put Malkin with Fehr and Kuhnhackl, they're both guys that distribute well, big guys who go to the net and most importantly defensively responsible.
It also would make our fourth line even more potent, think of trying to contain the speed of Sheary Cullen Rust, and remember they aren't going to see a lot of minutes so they are always going to be coming on the ice rested and chomping at the bit.
The line combos this year are all so exciting. |

Bad alt/cheerleader...
Give Rust back to Cullen, and Fehr to Malkin.
As to the guy above me (not gonna double quote) I'm gonna keep Kuhn with Cullen. That line was Kuhn - Cullen - Rust when it became the new threat, and I'll keep it that way. Sheary gets to show if he can handle more time with a super star center this way. |

First it was Kuhnhackl/Fehr/Rust. Then Fehr got hurt and it became Cullen. Now it's Kuhnhackl/Cullen/Fehr. It really doesn't matter. Kuhnhackl/Fehr/Rust/Cullen/Sheary have all played with each other quite interchangeably - their chemistry is not in question. So the question becomes who does Malkin fit best with.
Honestly as long as his line isn't a defensive liability and as long as Malkin is back at his spot on the power play making it dangerous again, it's all good. Malkin is usually at his best when he feels like he has to do it all by himself. He's best when he's selfish. I think any of that group can play off of his selfishness in productive ways.

Actually this has been a very different Rust than what I'm use to. In college he always let TJ Tynan carry the puck, and Tynan was an east-west playmaking center. Rust was always really good at finding the soft spots for the one timers and crashing the net. Basically a mini Chris Kunitz. If he plays with skilled forwards like Malkin, he's more than capable of adjusting his game to how he use to play. |

Rust isn't in college any more, he got himself a real job and that's hustling the puck into the opponents zone at mach speed.
But if you say he can do it Ill take your word for it. But I think you just want him with Malkin for the sweet Alma Mater bragging rights. |
