Did he show commitment? He signed the Flames offer sheet. Can't blame him too much for it since he gets $6.5 million this season but still. He was forced to return to the Avs. |

If O'Reilly stays on the Avs beyond this season, it will be at wing. He'll be getting paid way too much money not to be on the top 2 lines but its pretty clear Duchene and Mackinnon are the long term 1st and 2nd line centers on the team. |

Does O'Reilly have to play part of the season with the AVs , seeing he signed his contract later in the year. If a team matches an OS then they must keep him for one year. |

The earliest they can trade him is Feb 28th. |

Compared to the latest guest blogger for the Oilers, this guy is Hemingway. It amazes me that, in what are basically resumes to Eklund, these guys spend so little time on sentence structure and spelling.
Good blog though. The Av's are going to be a great team to write about for the next 15 years. I like their young core even better than the Oilers'. |

I know what you mean. I had my comment pulled from that blog when I said it was a blurr and I had no interest to read it. |

I think Stastny would be better as a winger since he played the wing befor with Forsberg. I would like the lines of:
Landy-Duchene-P.A.
Stastny-Mackinnon-Tanguay
Mcginn-O'rielly-Downie
Mcloud-Mitchell-Olver/Brody

For the long term I think it's better to move O'Reilly to the wing. He will make too much money to play on the 3rd line. Stastny is good to hold down the 2nd line while Mackinnon figures everything out because he's gone next year. He will make more money have have a better opportunity somewhere else as a 2nd line center than he will here with Duchene and Mackinnon being the long term option. |

Stastny or O'Reilly will have to be shipped. I honestly can not say which I would rather let go of since Stastny was supposed to be the next Sakic and is a great player and likable guy but O'Reilly is younger with huge defensive upside. This trade better land us the #1 D-man that we desperately need. |

This is my first time writing, and writing has been a weakness in my life, but I decided to fight my fears and I am very passionate about hockey and I thought I'd give it a shot
Hockeybuzz is a tough crowd to write for as I've read comments and blogs for years, I promise my grammar will be better next time if I get the shot |

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. If O'Reilly isn't a fit on the wing he'll be traded at the deadline.
Next season according to the CBA O'Reilly needs a minimum offer of 6.5 mil. That's not 3rd line center money. |

6.5 to qualify him, yes
i think if he isnt trade bait, he will be signed to a deal close to 5 million before the deadline so they dont have to qualify him. when he was negotiating with the avs before the offer sheet, it was believed he was seeking close to 5 on a long term deal, avs were only offering 3ish

Very interesting gives O'Reilly boat loads of leverage. I was unaware you could avoid the QO by signing an extension.
I guess it comes down to if he wants to stay with Colorado or not. Between him and Stastny and MacKinnon coming on board it's an interesting situation for fans of other teams as well. |

He only has to be qualified if they want the extended time to negotiate, if he is signed before the end of season when he has to be qualified to keep rights, they would have to pay him 6.5 + 10% i believe.
If radar really does like denver and thinks he can win eventually with the core they are building, he will sign a deal worth the 5 he was askig for if he won't sign for what he is worth, try and move him to the east for a defenceman...god the defence sucks there is no denying his defensive talents, its a question of if his 55 points were just because of injuries and being played with better teammates or if he does have more offense to show |
