I'm glad we stood pat. Last year's trades (Franson/Santorelli) seemed to mess with the team chemistry. This team seems to have finally jelled and found some consistency in lines.

Joey is streaky and the lack of consistency was a massive problem in Columbus for a guy playing in that role.

Happy we really didn't do anything. Nothing rumored was worth it.

If Vesey doesn't sign, I wouldn't be surprised. Very disappointed, but not surprised.

I think that holding a spot for Vesey is partly an excuse for not doing anything, but it sends a good message to him, regardless. The risk with adding someone like Vrbata is that Vesey might then look at the roster and assume that he'd now slot in on the bottom two lines and decide that that's not appealing enough to forgo free agency. Poile is mostly looking beyond this year and gambling that having Vesey in the system for the next 4 years will pay off more than a 2-month rental like Vrbata would have.

I haven't followed Vesey's story that much but I saw someone else point out something interesting on social media They said he had an article published about how much getting his degree meant to him and such and why he stayed in school. Wouldn't going pro after his College season to be in the playoffs cause him not to graduate with less than a month in school?

Here's a link to the article you were talking about:

He sounds like a pretty good kid. I know a lot of people are skeptical because of the Suter situation, but I'm glad Poile didn't let what happened with Suter dictate what he did with Vesey. I'm a believer that if you are honest with people and treat them with respect, more often than not, it will be reciprocated.

Appreciate you sharing the link to that story. Classy individual irregardless of what he does after the end of his college hockey career. He's definitely well-grounded. He'll make the right choice.

I actually applaud Poile for once for not making any moves at the deadline. Poile didn't mortgage the future. As much as I want the Preds to make the playoffs, this is not their year.

I don't know man, they seem to finally be hitting on all cylinders. Last year they peaked way too early. They may be hitting things right on time this year.

A veteran D man should have been added but I guess the price was too high.

Absolutely. This is basically Poile putting this out to the World that we want you and drafted you so we expect you to honor your commitment. Now if you don't, YOUR the one that will look like a jackass.

So any idea what Columbus was asking for? Was Fiala really involved?

I know nothing about this guy, what does he bring to the table?
