Vrbata and the collection of garbage UFA's should have been dealt for anything. It's a shame, seems like a missed opportunity but it is what it is.

Bloggers message to Vancouver: holding steady and not losing anything = bigger failure than making a move and losing.

Vancouver was by far the biggest loser. Vrbata and Hamhuis both should've been dealt for the best deals available. Linden should fire his ass! And he should do it Vince Mcmahon style! Tanner how are you so clueless in every aspect of this game?

It looks like Benning put as much effort into the trade deadline as the three of you put into this hotstove. Little more insight please.

Being the biggest losers at the deadline is a huge reach. We pieced together a team from FA and are rid of a lot of money this summer to do it again. Im happy so far as long as we start finding a few pieces worth keeping. We need a good trade for a top 4 rugged Dman that can dish out some hits. Unfortunately that means let Hamhuis walk but we are looking at a good 15 million for a big trade. Personally I'd like Edler to go OR he remembers how to hit again and play more in-your-face style hockey but I think that's asking a lot. We need 2 D-man that can dish out 100-150 hit's per season with good shots. Or we get a few more bandaids for a couple more years and pray our youth can step up IE. Tryamkin, Pedan.

Vrbata gets hurt and Hamhuis handcuffs the club with two teams to get traded to.

I'd say Tampa letting Stamkos walk for nothing is pretty tops.

I agree. This team is a sinking ship with bandaids for UFA's patching the leaks. Yet, we are still taking on water and getting closer to the bottom. Don't get me wrong, I like where we are gonna draft but I want to see more youth and a fresh look D group.

Vrbata also gave a list of teams open to be traded to. I was not surprised at all we didn't move either of them. I'm just glad we can let that 9.5 million walk and find different options in the offseason. Miller comes off the books after next year too so I'd like to see him moved 2017 Deadline.

Miller- Modified NTC (can provide five-team trade list)

good luck with that

Vancouver definitely was on the losing side but not THE loser. The team is trending downward anyways, keeping some of the players they have will help keep them trending towards a better draft position. Regardless of moves they couldve made, it would likely have minimal impact going forward. B or C level prospects and midround picks arent going to rebuild the Canucks, they have more than their fair share of mediocre prospects projecting to fill out the bottom 6. The team wont resurrect until it gets a few blue chip prospects into the lineup.

I actually agree with Tanner that a team with Stanley Cup expectations should be going all in. Chicago likely didnt want to move certain prospects but they have a window to win and they are going for it. Nashville was another team I would've expected to be more active

If we don't he walks and we she'd his 6 million. Sure it's painful not to get anything but that's still a huge amount of money free again next year. Markstrom might be able to manage a bigger workload at that point too.

After thinking about everything that could have happened, doing nothing isn't the end of the world. Being forced into a corner with the amount of teams that Hammer and Vrbata were willing to go to made it close to impossible. But there are upsides.

- Keeping Vrbata helps out with tanking. He is horrible defensively.
- After being forced into a corner, Im sure everyone learned their lesson in giving out NTCs
- We didn't force a trade in which we took back a bad contract.

Yeah, we didn't gain anything.. but at least we will have some cap room and contract flexibility in the off season. Overall, I am disappointed that we didn't move out the vets but no where near as upset as I was 48 hours ago.

Could have been way worse

All a huge overreaction over nothing.
A boring n lacklustre TDL it was.
Biggest losers r contenders not upgrading.
TB Anaheim n Dallas to a lesser degree.
That said idk if this TDL had anything to offer tbh.
Eriksson still in BeanTown stands out to me n idk if resigned.
IMO only the Hawks n Panthers made good moves.

Canucks not getting lousy draft picks for a shallow draft is no big deal.
Fans thinking any deal is a good deal oughta shake their heads.

I think it's more about publicly stating you are sellers, that you will trade a well respected veteran defenseman indicating playoffs is out of reach, and then get nothing done. Only result is questions and disappointment.
