Caps have got to figure out what is up with the slow starts. The first 10 minutes against the Pens last night were awful.

Brooks Laich is a great character player and it would have been great for him to be a part of what I hope is a deep run through the playoffs this year. Back when I think Chris Clark got traded I was hoping the Brooksie would get the "C", but it wasn't to be. He may be back some day in the Caps front office or in the booth.

Caps have a 16 pt lead over the 2nd place team in there division so I think sometimes when the margin is that large and with basically a month to go until the end of regular season, the sense of urgency tends to decline some. Teams tend to coast a little more trying to preserve energy so they have a full tank for the long gruelling playoff run. Nobody wants to suffer a major injury at this stage of the season and especially playing against bottom feeder teams (Leafs ). I don't think it's something that's preached from coaching, I just think it's more of a mental thing than anything else.

I just hope the Caps do not coast into the playoffs and get bounced in the first round like they did against Montreal a few years back. The numerous playoff debacles that the Caps have suffered have me very nervous this time every year, almost irrational.
