Ryan Smyth update: The Islanders are still trying. According to one source, "really trying." The Leafs are making "all sorts of contigency" plans if they can get Ryan...If they can't they are very hot on Jason Blake. However, Mike Keenan is also lobbying hard for Ryan Smyth and Sutter may be saying, "Twist my arm why don't you?" I will be meeting up with the great Rob Kerr at the draft and going of Fan960 live at some point to discuss this further. Another team in on the Ryan Smyth sweeps Detroit, and as previously mentioned Buffalo...
The Phoenix Coyotes are trying to make a move for a goalie, and two sources now have told me that it comes down to two players...Vokoun and Fernandez. A source close to the scene said, "Don Maloney may just thrust the Coyotes out of obscurity in the next few days."
The Flyers will be "going hard after a number 1 center in one week's time"...if not before...:) Word is that they may be divided on the better fit...Gomez or Briere.
I still am hearing that despite reports and rumours out there, the Sabres are very optimistic about returning Briere to the fold. Qualifying Vanek was a good step, but only goes 1/10th as far as needed...
Patrick Marleau is another name that the Flyers could jump in on, but that would require a trade...(Hey we have Rathje.....) But I would be more surprised to see the Flyers put together a package close to that of the Habs which is rumoured to include Higgins....depending on who you believe...BEFORE YOU HABS FANS GO NUTS....I would not trade Higgins for Marleau straight up...I am just relaying rumours here...rumours are not personal endorsements..
Drury...the latest is the Avs are gaining momentum and with Forsberg likely to return, he and Drury are VERY close.
