The latest on Klingberg and Farabee

A couple short items for today: the fifth day of NHL free agency and nearing the time of year (after the Draft and development camps leaguewide) that hockey ops staffs leaguewide tend to go on summer holidays.

* A source told me that several NHL teams have reached out to UFA defenseman John Klingberg about his health (coming off hip surgery) and his willingness to sign a one-year contract. The word is that the offensive defenseman, who will turn 32 next month, is not yet close to getting medical clearance. He's not going to explore an NHL return until he's ready to play.

* I continue to hear that "multiple teams" are kicking tires with the Flyers about the availability of left winger Joel Farabee. While head coach John Tortorella is not a believer in the player, general manager Danny Briere IS. Briere would still consider hockey trades involving the young winger but told other GMs several times that he'll only consider SERIOUS offers. It's not a giveaway. He said the same to other clubs regarding Morgan Frost (another player the GM believes in but the coach does not): make a serious need-for-a-need offer and we'll talk. Try to offer a sucker's trade, and there's nothing to discuss.
