After relieving interim coach Pascal Vincent of his duties after taking charge in Columbus, new GM Don Waddell originally toyed with the idea of hiring former King bench boss Todd McLellan, but has now opted to hire former Minnesota Wild head coach Dean Evason.

Evason, 59, had a 147-77-27 record in Minnesota and made the playoffs in the last three seasons before a 5-10-4 start last season forced Wild GM Bill Guerin to replace him with John Hynes.

Columbus has been a mess the last year, starting with the hiring of the now-disgraced Mike Babcock, and later the dismissal of longtime GM Jarmo Kekalainen, but there now appears to be some stability with Waddell taking over. Whether Evason can get results out of a team with some young talent and some massive holes will be interesting......
