Oilers Tender Offer Sheets to Broberg and Holloway... Good Decision?

The St. Louis Blues announced today that the team has tendered offer sheets to two separate restricted free agents from the Edmonton Oilers: defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway. Edmonton now has seven days to either match or decline.

The Oilers did not release the term/cap hits of the two offer sheets. However, word is that the Broberg offer sheet is a two-year deal at a $4.580,917 million cap hit. Holloway's is a two-year deal at a $2.29 M cap hit.

If the Oilers decline to match the Broberg offer, they'll receive a second-round pick from St. Louis as compensation. If the offer had been even one dollar higher in AAV, it would have required first and third rounders. If they do not match on Holloway, it's a third-rounder.

What is YOUR view? Good move or bad move? Should Edmonton match or decline?

Ek's take: I was surprised the Blues went the offer sheet route rather than trying to put together a workable trade. Offer sheets don't have a great history. They usually get matched. If not, it's usually a big overpay on the cap hit compared to the pick(s) owed as compensation. That said, if the Oilers match, someone else will have to go via trade.
