This week, the focus for most player agents may have switched from locking down one-year veteran minimum contracts for their free agent clients to getting them a chance to lock down a job on a professional tryout at training camp next month.

The Washington Capitals brought back forward Jakub Vrana on a PTO this week. It was just over three years ago that the 28-year-old Cup winner was dealt to Detroit for Anthony Mantha, he spent two years with the Wings and most of last season with the Blues AHL affiliate in Springfield, so the Caps are getting a free look to see if there is anything left to salvage.

Here are a few players who likely will get some interest from clubs:

Calen Addison – Defense – Only 24 years old, Addison is a right-shot D who scored 29 points in Minnesota two seasons ago. May still be holding out for a one-year deal.

Kailer Yamamoto – Wing – Scored 20 goals with Edmonton in 2022, had only eight goals with Seattle and struggled last season. Only 25 years old, but may only get a free look because of his slight build (5’8”, 153 lb.)

Dominik Kubalik – Wing – Skilled scorer who was a Calder Trophy nominee in 2020, but does struggle to play at the defensive end of the ice.

John Klingberg – Defense – Coming off hip surgery, the 32-year-old blueliner has been rumored to possibly be getting a PTO from the Leafs, who he played only 14 games with last season, but other teams might be willing to take a look if they pass.
