UPDATE: Per Elliotte Friedman and Chris Johnston, the Oilers have declined to match the offer sheets on Broberg and Holloway. Edmonton receives a 2nd and 3rd round pick as compensation.

*******

Tuesday is the deadline for the Edmonton Oilers to either match the two offer sheets extended to defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway or receive a second and third-round pick from the St. Louis Blues as compensation for the pair of former first-round picks.

The moves made by new Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman (swapping a draft pick to Vancouver for Vasili Podkolzin and sending Cody Ceci and a pick to San Jose for Ty Emberson) have been curious and may be signaling what the Oilers will do today.

While no one knows for sure what Bowman will do today, the acquisition of Podkolzin would hint that they are covering the spot vacated by Holloway. The trade of Ceci and his $3.25 million salary next season decreases the depth of an already weak Oilers blueline, but if they match on Broberg, Bowman will have to get creative to get the club under the cap before the season.
