sorry for the delay on this article, yesterday just got away from me in so many ways!
Anyway, as I wrote yesterday morning, I was meeting with two NHL sources for lunch and expected to have some things I could talk about on here… and they didn’t disappoint…
But before I get into this, there’s one question I get almost weekly that I thought I should address.
What does (e4) mean?
If you you’ve been around here since, lets say, the 1950s, you probablyknow what’s going on but if you’re new, I feel thist might be a good time for a quick explanation of the (e) system. I created this system as a way to protect sources, but also let readers in as to how solid/connected the source is for any particular rumor… the theory is by knowing how good the source is in relation to the rumor readers get a good idea of what’s actually out there and being discussed in the hockey world… it’s a system my sources, all understand and like and more than ones have told me things that they’re not telling anybody else because they feel protected…
So here is how it works…
(E1)- this is a rumor from ONE solid source I trust, but does not have any connection to the actual player(s) or deal that is being rumored….”I heard this….”
(E2)- this is a rumor from TWO or MORE solid sources I trust, but does not have any connection to the actual player(s) or deal that is being rumored…. This could be just two sources who heard something or as many as infinite. But again they’re not connected directly to what’s happening.
(E3)- this is a rumor from ONE solid source that I trust AND DOES have a direct connection of some kind to the actual player(s) or deal that is being rumored….”We are working on….”
(E4) this is a rumor from TWO or MORE solid sources I trust AND DOES have a direct connection of some kind to the actual player(s) or deal that is being rumored….”We are working on….”
(E5) this is NOT a rumor but rather a deal I am told is done, and I haven’t yet seen it reported elsewhere….this is rare of course, but always fun when it happens. That’s for sure.
Enough of that…Let’s start off today with Centers in the Rumor Mill
On Detroit’s attempts to get Dylan Cozens….
From all I’ve been told the Red Wings want to make this trade in the worst way.(e4) But the fit really is not there. The Sabres are not going to take draft picks and they will only make an old-fashioned trade….player for player….. not taking on anyone’s salary dumps. GM Yzerman can be pretty crafty though, so I don’t think he’s gonna give up that easily…… the Sabres won’t move Cousins to the Leafs and they’ve made that very clear…
On Scott Laughton….
Toronto has inquired about Scott for a couple years now. And with good reason. Scott is kind of a unique player who can fill many different roles. At the same time he’s not gonna blow you away on most nights and has, like most of the Flyers lately, had consistency issues this year… Boston(e4) is also in the running here as are the Kings(e3) and Avalanche(e3)…. Might want to keep your eye on Florida as well…..just a hunch.
On Brock Nelson..
This was Toronto’s main target earlier in the year(e3), but now the Islanders are playing well and in the hunt, so it’s really hard to tell if they’ll just try to win now….which is what they normally do… the Red Wings are fighting with the Sabres and roughly 50, give or take, other teams trying to make the wildcard in the east. They would consider Brock Nelson as well I was told.(e2). Colorado(e2) Minnesota (e1) as well.
On Yanni Gourde….
Yanni is currently injured, but will be back shortly after the 4Nations. Yanni has a lot going for him, including two Stanley Cups. The Islanders(e2) and Kings(e4) have shown the most interest….. but I’ve also heard murmurs about the Caps, Bruins and yes, the Leafs…(all e1)
More to come soon..
What’s the Buzz?
Which of these centers would you be willing to give up the most for?
Do you think your team should just stand pat and not be enticed by these guys?
What are you expecting from your team at the trade deadline?
