This Sunday prior to the Blues vs. Gold game the Blues will unveil their new alternate jersey that we’ve all been hearing about for months. In an email sent out to fans earlier today the jersey description was spot on with what Howard Berger recently posted here on HockeyBuzz.com.

• A powerful base color of navy blue trimmed in white and gold.
• A new logo on the crest of the jersey featuring the time-honored Blue Note against the Gateway Arch, the iconic symbol for the City of St. Louis, captured within a gold circle highlighted by the words St. Louis Blues.
• The Blue Note, in navy, trimmed in gold and white on each of the shoulders.
• Uniform numbers on the back and sleeves in white – a first for the Blues – trimmed in gold and navy.
• A classic, old-school draw string -- another first for the team – at the base of the white-trimmed collar.
• Navy socks trimmed in white and gold will complement the on-ice look, resulting in a navy blue combination from head to toe – helmets, jersey, gloves, pants and socks.

The general consensus among fans is that the description sounds promising. If you’re still a little worried about a repeat of the team’s previous attempt at a third jersey, a little tidbit of information was buried in today’s email that might alleviate some of that concern.

The jersey was designed by Fleishman-Hilliard. That’s significant because Jim Woodcock heads up their sports business practice. Before leaving for Fleishman-Hilliard Jim Woodcock was the VP of Marketing and Communication for the St. Louis Blues and while with the Blues he got what is affectionately referred to as the ‘clown jerseys’ replaced with what most consider their best jerseys. Woodcock might not be with the team anymore, but we all know he would never let a poorly designed Blues jersey happen on his watch.

Schneider situation is disappointing

It’s always easier to spend someone else’s money, but as a fan I was very disappointed that they didn’t claim Ducks defenseman Mathieu Schneider off waivers. Dave Checketts and John Davidson have said over-and-over again that if the right player for the team is available that the wallets would be opened.. and I’m not sure that there is a more ‘right’ player for this roster. An experienced offensive defenseman was the biggest need going into the offseason and that didn’t change in free agency.

Schneider’s experience would not only be an instant upgrade to the team’s wretched power play, he’d be a great mentor for Erik Johnson (whose injury only made picking up Schneider make more sense). I’ll cut JD a little slack for now since the situation hasn’t entirely played itself out yet, but as a fan I’d be a ton more optimistic about this team’s playoff chances with Schneider manning the point next to EJ.
