Damien Cox: Onside or Offside?

For those who didn't watch the Canucks and Red Wings game last night it was good match for a pre-Christmas contest. In fact as the third period moved on it became quite heated particularly after Kronwall leveled Kesler with a huge hit along the boards.

I felt the hit was clean except that Kronwall 'launched' and left his feet to make the hit. Kesler challenged Kronwall after but know scrap ensued and Kesler took a two minute minor penalty.

Fast forward a bit and then this happens:

It's what transpired on Twitter after Damien Cox made some observations about Kesler and Europeans and why I ask- is he onside or offside?

Damien Cox "Nice dirty knee by a dirty player, Kesler. And not a single VAN fan will admit to seeing it."

This was then quickly followed by: Damien Cox "Kesler always the first to complain, first to do something sneaky. But he'll challenge a European opponent to fight."

What is Cox trying to tell us? Is he suggesting Kesler won't fight anyone who is non-European or is he implying something else? I think he's trying to say several things but came out looking like Don Cherry.

First off, who is Kesler supposed to go after Bertuzzi? Why would he not go after the player who just corked him (warranted or not)? Therein lies the problem with Cox and his 'judge before I think attitude', he wants to smear Kesler but isn't fully aware of why he's saying anything.

In fact the real damage here is that Cox has claimed that Europeans are not fighters, no that they should be challenged to fight. Remember this is the same person who blamed the stanchion when Chara 'turnbuckled' Max Pacrioetty. He challenged the Canadiens and their owners to ensure the 'dangerous stanchions' were replaced after the club and ownership voiced displeasure with the NHL and it's decisions on the matter. So now he is after Kesler and Europeans or just Kesler but to prove some point which doesn't exist he insults European players?

Why should any ethnicity, geographic commonality, race or other distinguishing characteristic of a player(s) be relevant in this discussion? It shouldn't and Cox was way off base in his comments but he will never admit it. Will Cox now attack European cars who don't drag race against Corvettes?

With Cox the issues never seem to end with his endless bile and hate never stops and this is one more example of a journalist trying to be a 'media personality' and failing at it. Cox has never really endeared himself to anyone and is happy to play the villain, just ask Ted Leonsis. Has Cox gone to far with a Don Cherry attack on European hockey players, is he onside or offside?
