I've seen the first sign!!! This is the ENDOF DAYS!!!
After setting an NHL record for most assists, without scoring a goal, Teppo Numminen has just tallied for Finland. For real? He came in on the rush, and ROOFED it by Martin Gerber, looking like a 50 goal man in the process. In the words of the legendary Jack Buck..."I don't believe what I just saw".
Let me give you a little background, as to why this means so much in Buffalo. Teppo Numminen has been one of the Sabres steadiest players all season long. He's VERY solid in his own end, and he's been a steady veteranpresence on a relatively young team. He just hasn'ts scored yet. (This article is NOT in any way an attempt to go after Teppo for his lack of goals). It's a running joke with the team. Heading to the Olympic break, Numminen has 30 assists this season, and no goals.
Buffalo Sabres Teppo Numminen - 55 games - 0 goals.
Team Finland Teppo Numminen - 1/2 game - 1 goal.
Congrats to Teppo, it's been a while since he lit the lamp. I guess that "wide open Olympic style" means that anything is possible.
