The brief audition for rookie Mark Scheifele is over as the Winnipeg Jets have assigned him to the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League.

The move is not a shocking one. After a fantastic pre-season with four goals and four assists in five games, Scheifele had just one goal in seven regular season games, but was not getting much ice-time and seemed not ready to make the jump to full-time life in the National Hockey League.

Sending Scheifele back to Barrie to work with head coach and former Jet Dale Hawerchuk is a wise move. The Kitchener, Ontario native thrived in his first year with the Colts last season, registering 22 goals and 53 assists for 75 points in 66 games. It will also give the Kitchener, Ontario native a chance to get some big game experience with Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championship.

Scheifele joins a Colts team that sits third in the OHL's Central Division with a 6-4-1 record, just one point behind the Brampton Battalion for second and six points behind the division-leading Mississauga St. Michael's Majors.

The Colts have three of the top four point producers in the OHL this season. Zach Hall (11G, 17A) and Tanner Pearson (10G, 18A) sit second overall with 28 points, one point behind projected 2012 first overall pick in the NHL Draft, Nail Yakupov. Also playing well for the Colts is Colin Behenna who ranks fourth in the league in points with seven goals and 17 assists.
