Sharks off to worst start since 1993

The San Jose Sharks have not been good. After falling 3-1 to the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night, the Sharks dropped to 0-3-0, their worst start since 1993. Additionally, they've been outscored 12-3 in that span - the worst start even in that respect.

It's been a rough go for sure. Starting the season with a home and home vs. the Vegas Golden Knights didn't help. Playing back-to-back games this early didn't help either.

To a man, the Sharks believe the Anaheim game was their best showing yet, but I was in that building and it didn't feel like a great showing. San Jose put up 36 shots on goal and still only managed to score a single goal.

That said, they did have chances, but John Gibson stood tall to the task. If they can cut down on the terrible turnovers and stop giving up goals minutes into the game they would certainly improve their chance for success.

The Sharks have allowed a goal within the first five minutes in each of the three games.

Lastly, the lack of goal scoring to start the season is troubling. Former Sharks, Joonas Donskoi and Gus Nyquist have scored the same amount of goals as the entire Sharks team. Team scoring wasn't an issue last season and it's prudent to believe it won't be again this year.

The good news is Evander Kane is set to return from suspension and he could help jumpstart the offense. Logan Couture scored his first goal of the season, but Kevin Lebanc and Tomas Hertl need to be a whole lot better. Watch the Ryan Getzlaf goal below and try not to laugh...or cry. Whichever you prefer.

San Jose has two more games on this road trip in Nashville and Chicago before returning home for three games. Six of the Sharks' first 10 games are on the road and they need to find a scoring touch fast. You should be able to tell a lot by a hockey team after its first 10 games and we may have a good idea if this is a playoff team or not by then. Until then... don't panic - 79 games to go.
