The retooling on the fly Pittsburgh Penguins have made a trade with the St. Louis Blues. They have brought in 32-year-old Kevin Hayes and they have done so while being bribed. The Penguins have received a second round pick to take on Hayes in exchange for the very minimal ‘future considerations’.

I like the move if you consider what the Penguins focal point is now. The win at all costs era is over. The retooling, rebuilding, whatever era term you want to use is here. The Penguins are looking to build futures and Kyle Dubas spoke the other day about using cap space to take a bad contract and gain assets. Personally, I don’t think Kevin Hayes is going to do a ton to help the current roster, but I don’t think he is going to actively harm it either. I don’t think this is a horrible contract. He comes in at 3.57M for the next two years. Again, not ideal per se, but it is fine considering what the intent of the deal is.

There will be more moves to be had. This is one of them.
