The Islanders have set their opening night roster today by sending Devon Toews back to Bridgeport and placing Steve Bernier and Stephen Gionta on waivers. This is a clear directive from head coach Doug Weight as he stated the best players would make this roster regardless of time served or their cap hit.
In past years, Mathew Barzal would have been sent down but it is clear that this is a new direction that this coaching staff has. We will have more on this tomorrow as Noel and I preview opening night.
