Here's the latest that's going on with Teams and their search for their new coach!
Carolina
As I reported three weeks ago, Ulf Samuelsson was the leading contender to be the next Carolina Hurricanes Coach. Today, Ulf is in Carolina for a face to face meeting with Ron Francis and the Hurricanes Ownership. All signs still point to Ulf being the guy and could be agreeing to terms today. I expect an announcement in next couple days.
Pittsburgh
I'm told that the three remaining candidates are Willie Desjardins, Bill Peters and Ulf Samuelsson. Since Ulf looks like he's the guy in Carolina, It will most likely be Desjardins or Bill Peters. Penguins expected to make announcement of new coach in next couple days. Speaking with my sources, I feel confident saying Bill Peters will be next Penguins head coach. Hearing former Lightning & Coyotes Coach Rick Tocchet most likely will be named an assistant coach with the Penguins. Also look for Rod Brind'amour to be hired by the Penguins, most likely taking over Dir of Player Development.
Florida
According to Darren Dreger, the Panthers are expected to name a new head coach next Monday. I'm Hearing Gerard Gallant, Dan Bylsma and Bill Peters are the front runners for that job.
Canucks
Willie Desjardins has been the guy the Canucks have had their eye on for the past month. Only problem is the Penguins also like him a lot. So Willie could have his pick. If Desjardins doesn't go to Pittsburgh, he's a lock for the Canucks Job. If they lose out on Desjardins, Mike Johnston is a strong possibility as he had a GREAT interview with the Canucks. Dan Bylsma has also met with the Canucks.
I believe by Monday of next week we will know who the four coaches will be.
