Hockey's Greatest Captain

If tonight was Steve Yzerman' last NHL game, he will surely be remembered as the greatest captain of all time. That distinction had been bestowed upon Mark Messier in the past, but looking at Messier's career to that of the humble Stevie Y, there is no comparison. Yzerman is the leader of one of the greatest franchises the league has ever seen. The Red Wings have been a perennial NHL force for the last 15 years and Yzerman has been their leader throughout. Yes, Messier was a tremendous leader and truly one of the best, but his teams missed the playoffs in each of his final 7 seasons in the league. Yzerman's Red Wings only missed the playoffs twice in his remarkable 22-year career. Steve Yzerman, you will be missed more than you can imagine and if this is your last season, thanks for the memories.
