I had a weird feeling about Tuesday’s game against the Penguins. As I wrote in that blog, Pittsburgh has had a rough season, but there’s still a lot of talent on that roster that’s plenty capable of winning.
They also have clutch man Bryan Rust…
The Pens didn’t win in decisive fashion. Yes, they went into the third period up 4-1, and then the Cardiac Cats awoke and evened the score to 4-4 in a matter of fourish minutes and force extra time for a decision.
But in the end it was Rust’s quick snapper to beat Knight on the short side and take home the OT win.
It was just a disappointing night. Florida outshoots the Pens 41-16, Tkachuk earns an impressive four points, and the Cats only take home a point. Better than not taking home any, but still disappointing.
The Panthers will have to put that loss behind them as they turn their sights to the other team in Pennsylvanian, the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Flyers are hot right now, winning four of their last five games. Rookie Matvei Michkov looks to be the real deal. He buried the OT winner on Saturday to beat the Blues.
Travis Konecny is in beast mode at the moment, boasting 30 points in 25 games. His 13 goals and 17 assists are powering the Flyers right now, who sit on n the middle of the pack of the Metropolitan Division with a 12-10-3 record.
And don’t forget about our old friend Owen Tippett. He has 12 points (5G, 7A) with the Bullies so far this season. When he was traded to PHI, I thought there was no way he would make it there. I felt that his struggles to become/stay a regular with the Cats, would spell doom for him going to Philadelphia — a diehard fanbase known for putting their players/teams under a microscope, and never shy about criticism.
But Tippett looks to have found his spot there, and good for him. Cool to see he’s making it happen.
Florida could catch the Flyers a little sleepy tonight, since the last time PHI played was last Saturday. Or, the opposite could happen…Philadelphia could come out flying.
However it goes down, one thing is for sure…the Cats should be angry about Tuesday’s loss and looking for that W!
