Update - a big thank you to Cooleus on this. Hronek signed an 8 yr 7.25 deal. PHR has a posting worth reading.. Congrats to Hronek and Vancouver for getting it done. No guile, this is a very good day for Hronek and the club.

An interesting trend has hit the Vancouver acquisition of Hronek. While Detroit fans (myself included) relented the loss, Vancouver went from “no problem extending” to Potentially flipping Hronek at or before the draft depending on how negotiations go. That has added to speculation from

From back in March in a write up by the province.com that Vancouver fans may regret the loss of the pick that saw Detroit grab ASP.

There are other Dmen in the AHL who are getting looks in GR. We’ve talked about Edvinsson, Buium is now with the organization, Tuomisto and Wallinder are being mentioned as “getting a look” in the pre season. For Sandin-Pellikka, it seems like Vancouver would bring him over this year at least for AHL assignment while they look at return on Hronek whose qualifier of 5.85m could easily turn into an arbitration award closer to 7m than the club would want.

I would like to see the Dman on North American ice this season. There seems to be growing interest in his development and that adjustment to the AHL is in large part the first glimpse of less time to make decisions and higher physicality that European players get a look at. The multiplier for the NHL ups the ante even further. Reaction time has to beat processing time until “the game slows down”. Those outlet passes that get intercepted and turn into odd man rushes from the neutral zone are painful lessons.

Still, I’d like to hear from each of you. Hronek seems to be ready to command a dollar amount that seems to be less appealing now than it was a few months ago for Vancouver. This isn’t likely an ideal time for Detroit to try and recover the right shot Dman with Seider’s raise on the table. Would you push to see Axel start his North American career or do you want an extra year overseas? The prospect pipeline has gotten some media love recently and this is a name/player that will likely have more mention this year as the season progresses. As always, you make the machine go here. Comment away, and thank you for dropping in.
