PHR did another write up on remaining RFAs and of course Seider and Raymond were mentioned. Brennan McClain had the following to say regarding Yzerman’s first pick as Detroit’s GM:

The young German defenseman has not missed a game since making his NHL debut on October 14th, 2021, and has been Detroit’s best defenseman since then. He’s been solid offensively with 21 goals and 134 points in 246 games over his entry-level deal but his defensive metrics are much more difficult to interpret. Seider is regularly put into bad situations when he hits the ice as the Red Wings’ most serviceable option on the back end. He’s finished towards the bottom of the roster in on-ice save percentage over his three-year career but he also finishes towards the top of the team in defensive zone starts.

We talk about the value of a player. Seider has been a shot blocking machine and a bit of an iron man. His slender frame belies a fairly tough young defenseman who (opinion) deserves better in terms of pairings on his left side. He shows up night after night and gets the Dzone starts and high minutes that kill his metrics but seems to genuinely love what he does.

It would be a great sight of relief to have this settled. The issue of Raymond, as the above linked article points out, is a bit more complicated. I haven’t heard any numbers or concrete holdups. Regardless, I really like Raymond but Seider seems to hold the high priority for many (myself included). He could very well sport a “C” one day and has a maturity and focus that has been a refreshing part of a difficult rebuild.

So here’s where you come in. Do you have a breaking point in negotiations, or is it just a matter of wait it out. I had my closest hockey friend opine that Seider is his only “untouchable”. Do you see the situation similarly or is Raymond as much an integral part of the team going forward? The young Swede has impressed and I love watching him skate and make plays. Some of this is just killing time as we wait. Part of me expects for both to have an ‘a’ on their sweater at some point. Chime in and let me know your thoughts. Be well as we’re getting closer to the prospect game vs. Dallas and to the general camp.

It was reiterated in other articles that Brandseg-Nygard will be at camp while Sandin-Pellikka is slated to be in Sweden during the preseason. I’ll be honest that it’s disappointing not to see how ASP has progressed and would like to see him in pre season play against other teams. Such is life, but ASP still gets an occasional mention via Vancouver media as a potential future remorseful loss. Hronek has done well for the team and I missed him to be sure. The blue line feels like a bit of a regression and hopefully Edvinsson can have a good campaign being in Detroit (presumedly) for the entire season.

Let me know your thoughts and as always, thanks to all who stop by.
