42 seconds left and it goes down the drain. In all sincerity, it shouldn’t have been that close. Ottawa outshot Detroit, Husso played one of his better games but is still winless on the season in his 5 attempts. This isn’t on the goalie tonight.
Kane’s first game back looked like his season to date. He of course has rust after missing the last 5 games, but the season has not seen what the first ballot hall of famer brought in his shortened stint last year. Raymond was stifled, Larkin whiffed on a nice chance in tight, but the overall offense wasn’t enough.
The PK did let in a goal, but it was called back due to an offsides challenge. Still, it was the best night the short handed crew has had in a while. The lone goal was, of course, on the power play as Debrincat grabbed his 11th.
Full marks to Edvinsson who unfortunately failed to defend the GWG. He took a lot of hits and was instrumental in Detroit’s lone goal after it looked like he may be out for the game. Any player that at least keeps coming and wants to try and turn things around is a plus.
There is just a lack in every department right now. On ice talent, coaching structure and office management. No one is stepping up to make a change, and it begs the question, why? Has the office just decided that this group will either rise up or free fall? There just isn’t a lot of energy on a consistent basis during the games. Some of you reach out individually with thoughts, I have my own group of people that I respect greatly, some of you lay it out in the comments. The good will from last season has been largely spent. The telecast team does their best to minimize the vibe, but it is not a great feeling right now.
