The Red Wings' Steve Yzerman pulled the cord and cleared the water closet. Both head coach Derek LaLonde and defensive coordinator Boughner are out and a familiar face is back in the fold. Todd McLellan is back, this time as the bench boss.

It’s a bit of a rush situation, but after the St. Louis game even the play by play and sports crew seemed to know that changes were coming. It’s a multi year deal according to the link so it’s not yet clear when exactly Detroit reached out to the former assistant. More news as it becomes available, but expect a somber pregame from the players and hope that it lights a fire. I’m reposting the post game video response after St. Louis.

While pondering how long this may have been in the works, it hits as a reminder that St. Louis immediately signed their new coach once available to a multi year pact. Hopefully we’ll hear the details in the upcoming days.
