The Detroit Red Wings have 6 straight wins heading into today’s contest against Seattle. The life of the team has brought life back to fans and even writers who were burning out on a brutal season. In 7 games behind the bench, McLellan is 6 and 1 with that first being about as quick a turn around from being laid off on the holiday to being in a game as I can remember. Even with that said, the loss to Toronto got me a , “I guess there’s no coaching bump for this team” comment.

Before putting together a very brief pre-game, a scrub of the comments found the same debates being had about last summer’s defensive disappointment in terms of personnel. The team is heading to some interesting territory. Johansson had a guaranteed roster spot (even if a healthy scratch) due to waiver ineligibility. Edvinsson stepped in and is now looking much more comfortable as his time is split between the top two lines. A lot of speculation will be had, wondering if Sandin-Pellikka will get a shot at the top roster or if he is Grand Rapids bound (hoping and assuming he makes the trek over).

Petry is coming off the books and Johansson will be an RFA. Wallinder gets some mention in the comments. Chiarot and Holl are both still signed for one more season. Johansson seems like an easy decision to extend and if ASP has the chops it will be interesting to see where the team goes. Chiarot and Holl are both listed as having 10 team modified trade clauses.

For now, whether it’s the “bump”, a more communicative squad or some combination the team looks better. The power play is 3rd in the league with the PK still lingering at 31st. At some point, the streak will hit a wall but it has been a lot more enjoyable to hear fans engaged again. Things are interesting all over the place. The Rangers seem less than thrilled with the season, the Predators are a far cry from where I (and a lot of others after free agency) thought they’d be. Ottawa is coming on strong, Montreal etc. at some point things will get threshed out. We’ll see if Wings are ready for an early start today!
